QUESTION: Regarding the 2.25 engine

Just curious...what was the first year the four cylinder 2.25
petrol engine came with the plastic screw-on fill cap on the
valve cover?

About 1979/80ish..... Not absolutely certain.

Didnt that happen when they went to a 5 bearing unit? ( i know
the webbs i the crank case are the proper way to check but i
have always used the filler as a tell tale )

The parts catalogue is really unclear on this one, and shows
both types for 3 and 5 bearing for some reason. I think it
relates to the emission control equipment fitted in some way and
was not a simple change when 5 bearing happened. If I were a
betting sort of bloke I'd go with Albert, around 1979/80.

I have a 3 bearing engine from a 1980 LWB, that has the plastic
filler cap!
It won't have that rocker cover when it goes into my 1960 SWB,
so if anyone wants one, let me know!

Make certain you have the correct rocker gear to suit the
cover.... a mismatch can erm.... touch the sides a bit.

I've already had that problem, with 8:1 compression head on 1963
engine! :smiley-furious:
The push rods were too long and the rockers hit the cover!

Problem dealt with by fitting 2 rocker cover gaskets! :thumbs:
That head is now on a 5 bearing block with the correct push rods
and is mostly fine!
The later engine has a 7:1 head and I'm hopeing it'll be ok, but
rocker cover gaskets are quite cheap! rofl
