Hello All.
Thought I would post some pics of the Stage 1 I have just
bought.
Please feel free to pass any comments, leafers are new to me so
if antything doesn't look quite original or correct I woulsd
appreciate the advice.
Knobs keep falling off my gearbox which is pretty knackered
judging by the whining..
Question...Keep to an original LT95 or would I be comitting a
heinous crime if I upgraded to another box?? I have heard that I
should source some Range Rover Transfer gears which will give it
more legs..gearbox will whine for a while longer but will no
doubt be the first major job I cannot hear the engine over the
box whine and the overdrive is jumping out...

Very nice indeed!
I do like the look of Rangemasters - me thinks I will go down
that route. Word of warning though - I wouldn't use that Xtra
Grip as a spare! Rangemasters are radial, and Xtra Grips are
crossplies...

I thought that They were different but hadn't looked closely. I
will swap the spare for another range master.
I had been looking for a 1 ton but settled on a Stage 1 as a
more everyday useable truck. I will post some more pics of the
chassis / interior etc after the weekend.
After a day it struggled to start..Cranking for ever before it
fired so likely it will need a good service, plugs etc to see me
through the winter

the LT95 was always noisy. it was q complaint when the stage 1
and RRC were new, even in road tests of the time. yours could be
fine.
gearing wise, overdrive or rr gearing give a similar effect. if
you are happy at 60ish, standard gearing will be fine.
the overdrive jumping out of gear, could be adjustment of the
selector rod

Welcome aboard! All the best people drive marine blue Stage 1's
don't you know. ;-)
As Alex says above, all LT95's tend to be noisy the a greater /
lesser extent. Worth chucking the soundproofing in if it isn't
fitted as it makes a big difference.
I run mine with an OD and it cruises at 60 all day long.

It certainly does feel excessively noisy!!..Release bearing also
sounds close to collapse..It is very noisy on tick over until
clutch is depressed..I will check all the oils etc at the
weekend..It may have been filled with EP which will need to be
flushed out.. 2nd is noisy, 3rd sounds like the transmission of
a blower bentley. 4th a bit quieter...It would be handy if I
could compare with a similar landy since I have nothing to
benchmark with at the mo. The gears all shift quite well. though
the selector is a bit of a pudding stirrer. Their is also a lot
of lash in the drivetrain to sort..
As for 60 !! I came home at about 50, It had plenty more engine
power but a combination of pinking under load and a need to feel
that I would get home prevailed
Early days. I will slowly work through it. Engine is sweet..I
believe not original but a range rover lump.
It shows 59000 miles...This is more likely to be second time
around though.. I will see what history I can track down..there
was very little history with it.

Check the UJs on the props to see if there one that has
collapsed that caused a lot o lash on mine.

We will be up near Settle for OLLR Cribo do if you want a drive,
or Orbitalpear is up at Durham and he has a 109SW running rangy
gearing that he might take you out in.

your description sounds like a normal LT95 . not got my stage 1
going yet, but done plenty of miles in RRC with one.
