Zenith better then Weber

Why do most posts on carburetors seem to think that the original
Zenith is better than the Weber? Replaced my Zenith with a weber
about 5 years ago and gave Zenith away, was this a mistake it
seems ok at the moment but maybe this is the death Nell !

Well see now, replace ANYTHING old and knackered, with something
NEW and NOT knackered, and the new will always be better. Did
you remove the Zenith because it was working perfectly?
I prefer the Solex PA40 myself................ (Pre 67 Low
compression stuff)

Got hold a new weber dirt cheap couldn't resist changing good
idea at the time

I agree with Albert
Really they both have drawbacks
The best carb ever fitted to a LR in my opinion is the solex
PA40
As an absolute alst resort I would use a zenith

Pah.
Mine's just eaten another diaphragm. Complete loss of power on
acceleration, difficult to start. Pah. :banghead

Brand new original Zenith fitted on Plakatong. Run very nice in
the beginning. :giddy:
Then fuel leaked INTO on float, drink(*& Carburetor body warped
on a long and hot highway drive. :2mo5pow:
Got the Carburetor warping fixed , changed the gaskets TWO
times. wagfinger
This piece of SHIT crapped out on me again . :finger:
Installed a Weber and no problems to report HhHedghog
Fuck the Zenith !

Turned out to be knackered vacuum control unit on dizzy changed
to a spare I had and seems ok, so weber stays for moment, passed
MOT and all is well for another year (mot) wise anyway
Possibly looking for a series 3 gear box with synchro that
works, would pay for a good one

It depends which Weber you are referring to Keith. The common
fitment to a series is a 34ICH, I loathe the thing on a series
as I've had them fitted to several, experienced icing on a
regular basis plus they do strangle the top end power a bit.
It's not that I think the 34ICH is a bad carb - it isn't, it's
simply not suited to the series Land Rover application.
The far better fitment to a series is the 32/34DMTL twin choke
as factory fitted to boingy 2.25 and 2.5 engines. It requires a
bit of fettling with regard to the exhaust, throttle linkage and
air intake however it is worth the effort.
I'm with Jim and Alex with the Solex PA40, however I've had two
refurbished by the Carburettor Exchange and have used both on
the ambulance, the problem I've had is them weeping fuel past
the many gaskets. Perhaps this is due to poor quality gaskets, I
can't believe both carbs are distorted. I've stripped one and
carefully run very fine beads of blue hylomar around all of the
gaskets to stop this.
12 years ago I fitted a new genuine Zenith 36IV to the 109 and
that has performed perfectly ever since, however I fully accept
the achilles heel of the Zenith is poor quality control. If you
get a good one they're great, a bad one is a pig.

I,m using the landy now for second car so is in regular use, no
synchro on 1st & second gear hence S3 box wanted
appreciate the comments and help, anyone got a twin choke weber
available?
