Why do you own a Land Rover?

From the recent posts on the laning protest topic it seems
obvious that most people who own a leafer have no interest in
using the red lever in the rear position, so why do you own a
       Land Rover?

I own two ...because i always wanted one ..
.and enjoy using it on a daily basis including laning as you
       well know
As for the thread i imaginen you are referring to Allan I
personally don't think we stand a cat in hells chance of winning
       that "battle" especially using "those"tactics.
Not sure what "the"answer is to be honest .
I do wonder whether we are all on borrowed time as far as laning
is concerned though.....too few lqnes.left with too much traffic
concentrated on them isnt helping .

I guess this is aimed at me somewhat.
I use mine as a heavy duty load carrier, and one that I can
use to recover broken-down vehicles, get people to and from in
the foul weather, and occasionally to use to collect and deliver
parts around the country, for which I do from time to time use
low box (Such as climbing and descending Winnat's Pass heavily
laden a couple of weeks ago). It is important to me to have it
road tax free, and classic insurance, as although it is a second
vehicle, we all know how expensive it is to keep a vehicle legal
and on the road, and I use it daily. Maybe not for it's ultimate
purpose, but for mine. Remember, when new, utility 109s were
used primarily as load carriers and towing vehicles for building
firms and farms alike. Survivors are rare, due to the chassis
snapping on most, and the fuel consumption, and are low for the
"Leisure" end of ownership, as they are a little more cumbersome
to drive, both on and off the road. Mine was destined to be an
engine donor until I intervened. I had been idly looking for a
109 diesel for about 12 years when this one came along. I know
my thoughts don't match the majority, but they are my thoughts.
I cannot afford to break something whilst playing, as I use it
       for working.

I bought Pickles as a hobby and as cheapish transport for me,
while my wife has the car! I drive a company van, without
       personal use!
Pickles has given me some fantastic times, a few green lanes,
most where 2 wheel drive would have been traction enough and
many miles on the roads. Pickles has also given many people much
amusement in the form of the "Pickles Effect"!
I have enjoyed rebuilding her, after we went roly poly down the
A14, writing her and the posh road maggot off!
I've learnt a lot about mechanicking and gained a lot of
       confidence in doing it!
Owning a Land Rover has given me some amazing friends, who I'm
       very proud to know!
I'm now in the process of rebuilding another Land Rover,
slightly interrupted by having a heart attack, but giving me
       lots of pleasure!
I own them because they give me happiness and lots of fun!

       Nail on head for me.
I like the fact at 60 years old my Land Rover can still do
everything it was designed and built for and I'd like to think
my other hobbies allow me to use it as intended - cross-country
load lugging, running about and towing. Laning is great and a
Series lends itself to the pastime well but it isn't the be all
and end all... in my little world anyway.

I own my a Landrover for off road driving / laning when time
allows which is not very often at the moment ::)
It comes in useful for the allotment and wood collecting and
       many other jobs
and.. depite being relatively slow, expensive to fuel and not
right comfy it never failes to make me smile when I drive it
       :smilewide:
