Actully it was wobbly as fuck but it wasn't far, think the 2t
trailer is best left for 88s in future though.

Humm, the MOT might have been a few years ago but some of the
faults (like a cored brake flexi) definately predate the last
ticket.

Need somewhere to sleep, this'll do. Convienently this little
french town was putting on their own indurance event so we got
to have a look at an Audi R18 qualifying for that, its quite
impressive, though dispite it being 4WD I think the landy is
probubly more useful for my indurance event...

Impressive roundabout sculpture, apears to be made with real
cars too, more surprising with a moggy, beatle and mini
(alongside a 2CV, 205 and twingo) its not as french as you'd
expect, no surprise to see they've missed the magic of metro
though!

sad thing is these were the only ones I saw in Spain, I think
they must have been traided in against a Dacia Duster.

And Spain have stolen this bit of Morocco, I wonder how long
it'll be before you see statues like this of Merc W123's?
Whilst the old merc 240D (there are no other models!) represent
about 1/3 of the vehicles on the road (another 1/3 are merc
TN/T1 vans) it seems Kia and Dacia have the modern market sewn
up.

After the customs mime act. They seemed not to like the idea of
fire arms, so care was taken to not show them our large stock of
hilticaps as it would probubly take a bit of explaining.
Likewise we didn't bother to tell the ferrie companys of our
diving cylinders or the fact our Jerry cans and generators
wern't always empty.

Near the towns Morocco is pritty rough to be honest, more rubish
than a lane behind a jippo camp, out here though theres

Some Santanas made it over, aparently they are worth a fortune
because of import taxes, but we never saw one in use.

The new toll roads are very much inspired by the french aires,
things they havn't got the hang of it making the tolls really
expencive, or cambering corners well (though its much better
than the normal roads).

I'm told by the people who bussed up from Marakesh that farm
machines were everywhere, but this was the only agricultural
machine I saw, in the mountains where we were heading it was all
done by hand.

Made it to base camp, brakes were pritty shit and the Kenlowe
fan was pritty inadequate at 40degC but other than that things
wern't going badly.

Someone always waits on the surface when someones underground,
didn't usally get a vehicle to sit next to, good time for me to

Aparently the tarmac roads only arived in the next valley about
10 years ago, I suspect this valley wasn't so abandoned before
then as there are signs of buildings and apsolutely everything
has signs of attempted farming, and some farmers still head up
here, dispite the track they always seem to travel by horse if
not on foot.

Water was colected from a local pool, then had to be filtered
and boiled, this was a full time day job for 2 people as we
needed about 150 litres a day for the full team.

Next to the camp the locals were building a house, they'd been
tipping cement on site for days but this is what happens when
you park halfway on your preveous dumpings so the vehicle is on
a side slope and then proced to raise the body full of rocks
right up. The squashed drivers door was a result of the guy
trying to do a runner as it went. They wanted me to use the 109
to pull it back up but as there was by now a million people all
trying to do things I let the local police (who'd been keeping a
keen eye on our camp, aparently we needed it) do it with their
shiny land cruser (I didn't really want to try ripping the back
off the landy 3500km from home. The coppers tequneque was
somewhat interesting, it involvec freespooling the winch till
there was enough cable, try to load the excess back onto the
drum by pushing it back through the fairlead manually and then
preceding to tow the truck back upwards by reversing in high
range with the engine at maxium speed, to be fair this worked
but not before the LC disapeared in a cloud of clutch smoke -
I'd have thought if I'd have tried the 109 would have managed
the same thing in 1st low without much trouble.

Exped over and time to pack up, there was another van that drove
out from the UK though the only bit of the jeurney we did
together was from camp to the Moroccan border.

Before we left we had to nip into town to sort some things out,
town was about 20km away but there was 1km of altitude to deal
with too.

Fuel was cheep, really cheep, this worked out about 59p/l so the
rear tank of the 109 cost about £30 to fill, last week it cost
me £80 to do the same.

Still really hot! Never boiled but I recon it was not too far
off 120degC Making sure it had the right amount of coolent and a
fully functional thermostat and presure cap was essenchal, in
the future though I'd insist on a machanical or viscous fan as
the electric aftermarket fans just aren't good enough, though
they might be okay on a cool running Tdi?

Seems Renults are shit in Morocco too. At some point in its
life someones fitted a bigger altinator and it was quite
dificult to explain this was the resion the proper length
drivebelt wouldn't fit.

entertaining seeing their reaction as their patriotic smugness

point given how iratic the brakes were being.

night, turns out a 109 isn't the ideal car for inner city Paris
but we managed to squease it in somewhere.

Actully the confusion of the Arch de quassant was surprisingly
easy to deal with in the 109, everyone just slowly shoves their
way through and everyone seems to get where they want fairly
easily. Paris road rules in genral seem to work on the fact
they are ignored and people get on with it, compaire it to
London where you must stick to the rules or get fined for
anything I think this actully works better.

Well I survived anyway.
I don't think it faired too badly, I still quite surprised that
it averaged 29...31MPG across europe too, surpose it didn't have
many cold starts and spent most the time on the motorway though.
Since then its had an oil change and done about another 4k
miles, I fixed the hub and the brakes seem to have sorted
themselfs, wouldn't have thought the ambient temprature would
have much effect at making them snatchy but thats all I can
think of. Now I've just got to work out where next.
