It's for this reason that I'm going to leave it. If I start
poking him with a stick the actual winning bidder may demand the
vehicle he has proof he bought and as I bought it as "scrap
metal" and paid cash I have no proof that I own it :-?
May let sleeping dogs lie on this one.
On a lighter note it looks like I may have a found a good
chassis with V5 and a few spare panels from an abandoned project
which will do me nicely (and legally as the correct vin is
stamped on the chassis). :)

Did you get a reciept? He has no proof that he bought it because
a V5 isn't proof of purchase or ownership. It states who the
KEEPER is - that is who the authorities should send letters for
road tax, appearances in court etc. to.
If you've got the actual vehicle that an "expert" from the
series one club can identify as relating to the reg. number, and
all he has is a V5 and a plate on a coiler then he won't have a
leg to stand on. I know the Series 2 club have people who can go
out and ientify motors on behalf of the DVLA for the purposes of
registering barn finds and the like so I'd guess the series 1
lot can offer a similar service.
It would be nice if you ended up with a motor and its proper
identity and, as a bonus, dropped a knobhead in the shit.
