Now it's safely home, the next port of call should be to apply
to DVLA for the logbook... ;-)
If the other guy can't produce the motor, and you can, you may
find you win out.

Well, the serial number is still readable on the chassis and it
matches the one on the engine block, I think I'd have a good
case!

That would be funny...... any dirt marks on the panels behind
where the plates were mounted? This could end up really good!

Sensitive Casework at DVLA would be your port of call there.
Different phone numbers and contact address from the published
stuff.
Interesting project there, very brave undertaking.

GR8! It looks pretty straight, well worth it just for the
bodywork and the dash (did you see the one which went for £465
on ebay last week?! With the wrong dials and broken Lucas
switch... :o )

This has been done successfully by one of the staff on Practical
Classics Mag for an old Morris Minor or MO. In his case someone
had applied for a log book for his car that was a 'complete
wreck'. He had to trailer it to his local office for inspection
and it was ruled in his favour.
The Ebay seller and ID buyer can't object as they would be
admitting to doing something illegal!
Worth a punt and one in the eye for the sellers of illegal log
books. I would be quick before they sell the number off it
though.

I have recovered to the owner of the vehicle, six V5C documents
after they were transferred into someone elses name unlawfully.
Its doable, but can take time.

I wouldn't argue with the suggestions made above re recovery of
the plate. I do caution though that this would make enemies of
both the vendor and the high bidder. Only you will be able to
judge whether this is an acceptable risk to take

You might find that is actually has been tested, and carries a
valid testing "Certificate" enabling the high bidder to ring his
stolen 90 properly, and avoid ever having it tested again....
(Because his 90 is obviously one of those pre-1960 coilers that
we all know.....) until now, that is...!!!
