Bitter sweet 80"

I have just bought this rather dilapidated 80" which some of you
may have seen on eBay

It is a bitter sweet purchase though as I was actually the under
bidder and didn't initially win the auction. It was nice as it
had a current V5 with the original reg and plates still with it.
After the auction I received an email from the seller saying the
wining bidder only wanted the documents and plates and as the
under bidder would I be interested in what's left at a price I
couldn't refuse (scrap value). So I have bought it but with no
ID which is a shame, although, at least it has been spared from
the crusher!
I am intrigued by the old CROOKS signwriting from the 50's under
the layers of flakey light green paint (Was it compulsory at one
point to paint series ones with this? They all seem to have been
at some point!!) I'm hoping the paint can be removed revealing
the period sign writing. I'll get some pics of my own when I go
and sweep it up and bring it home.

What you want is a rusty Minerva to swap that body on to. Get on

Could be a plan Kev!
I was going to just sit on it until an old, beat to death
trialed 80" came up, or get a galvy spine for her in the future,
I honestly think that 80"s have got to the stage where they are
all worth saving, although that may just be the hoarder in
me......

No I think you are right, I also reckon someone would pay a fair
bit for the patina on that seat box, it's all the rage :girly:

Well, I've got it home! It was a bit of an escapade with me and
my old man going up in our high sided LDV (nicknamed the pikey
wagon) to collect the 80" from Cheddar in Somerset on Friday
evening and then find somewhere in Devon to stay the night and
take in the vintage sale at Dingles heritage center on the
Saturday. Well it sounded simple enough but after setting off
we found one of the rear double wheels had a puncture so we got
that sorted and carried on, then, after loading the 80" on the
truck, we discovered we had a pinhole in a powered steering pipe
and it had squirted all the fluid out so after being bum raped
£13 for ONE litre of ATF at a service station I temporarily
fixed the pipe using all my bodging prowess (rubber and jubilee
clip) and we carried on. By the time we got to Devon it was late
so we went to a pub. After a couple of pints of particularly
good real ale (Bays topsail, worth a try if you see it) we
decided that it was too late to get a room somewhere so we opted
to sleep in the cab. Bad idea number one. There is no room in an
LDV cab and so I decided, as it was a clear night, to sleep
underneath the truck. Bad idea number two. I woke up in a puddle
with a hedgehog sniffing me! Anyway, we got some good bits at
the sale and we're now home and dry. Here's some pics:

As for the signwriting I mentioned earlier, I think the majority
of it is savable. On the wings it says "Phone Crook 364" on the
doors it says "Taylors, slate, sand, gravel" I think and on the
sides of the tub it says "Plant hire".
