Heystee servo fitted to an S3. Advantage being that no cutting
required
Defender servo same diam, thus same boost, (not shown) fits but
requires cutting.

NOTE: Pads are an issue. Even the pads I took off which came
fitted from new were too big. Thus in ceratin palces they would
bind in the caliper. Thus either the caliper was too samll or
the pads too big. New pads form TRW had same issue so I point at
caliper being machined too small. Grind pads to give 1mm play
all round and all will be fine.
Pads I fitted are: Brand: TRW
Part No: GDB 695 (WVA 20741)
But freely available. There's lots of Talbot badged Fiat Ducato
camper vans around that take this pad in the UK.

Fitting thsi kit in isolation will not improve your brakes, in
fact removing drums for this kit, id=f that is all you intend to
do, degrades them, because you lose the servo effect of drums.
You will need uprated servo and new MC. More on this later, but
it is covered at:

There's a lot of bollox written about the older disc-brake kits,
becuase they didn't use LR parts. The reason this particulart
kit is no longer manufactured is because the caliper is NLA.
This prevented Heystee for making in continued volume. Not an
issue for you. The kit is fine and uses readily availabel parts
from the Ducato etc. The caliper can be reconned no issue
eitehr. If yo see one used for sale buy it.

Just to add a little more to the thread revival: I reconned my
calipers back in the winter, and it turned out those 48mm
pistons are the same as fitted to D2 and P38 front brakes.

Yes I apologise for the thread revival but I've been away...
DougT has it then, there you are, I didn't know that. Thank you
Doug. I rest my case. I think NoelC revamped a set too. There is
more bollox spouted on the various forums on the subject of
brakes than you could ever credit. Idiots that think putting a
fucking Tdi into a series is clever then bash out utter bollox
just because the world gave them a broadband connection. One day
they will stop. [Pigs oink overhead in tight formation.]
I was a T'pit last summer and I saw one idiot with brakes that
should have him shot. [He is danger to other road users. Cunt.
Best he remain nameless, I think he's moved to the Dark side
anyway] Really gents if you're too stupid for brakes, leave them
to somone else.
Yes of course it would be better if all these kits used standard
LR parts , but when you can get parts jsut as easily and often
more cheaply, from any where else why the fuck should you care?
One of the things I keep meaning to do is write a proper no
bollox brake thread. I got shot-down last time I started... [I
think becaue I refused to carry on the "I talk out of my arse,
and just because I can" policy and was contentious in doing so]
It'd be a 3000 words or more to do it properly, and I've not the
time and anyway 3000 words would be bemoaned as too much for
some. But I will have a go.
Rant over.

Dare I say that if you're going to do that, it might be worth
posting it in 'draft' form first, and allow people to comment on
it, suggest revisions, and then eventually thrash out a final
version.
I'm not saying you don't know your stuff, far from it, but there
are some folk on here whose knowledge and experience could add
value to the text; besides - debate is healthy ;-).
The end result could be the most comprehensive treatise on
series brakes anywhere on t'web.

Agreed. I don't pretend to knwo it all and there's clearly one
or two names I can think of that psot on here knowing one
helluva lot. Not sure how it would work though. I got overtaken
by events in that deep rim thread I did and whilst at its core
it is correct, it has one or two contradictions that 15-20 posts
later were revealed, and as a result of it more information
became avalable. A braek thread could be based in thsi way.
That rim thread could do with a rewrite or edit.
From what I've seen for every three or four series still on the
road, one will have below par brakes, irrespective of whether it
passed the last MOT. And let's be frank, they are not that good
in the first palce. To the point that you'll get some fool run
the old chestnut, "I drive at speeds commensurate to the
vehicle" yadda yadda.
I was last writing about thsi subject from the standpoint of
using a series as a mile-muncher rahter than a weekend-toy. That
old chestnut will not cut it. We should see us all able to stop.
And don't get me started on steering.
