I've been dipping into your forum on and off for some time. I
grew up with Series Land rovers, always long 'uns, and my first
memories as a kid of riding in a car was in a 109. We still own
it to this day.
I’m in Beds and not 4-5 streets away i can number two other
leaf-sprungers. One is particularly nice, and used as often as
mine.
As my intro says, it is not on Diseasal or Petrol or LPG, or as
I see from one post steam ( Fantastic). Or veggie stuff. Is that
allowed?
Over the last 18 months I've been playing with CNG. That is CNG,
not LPG, the stuff, going in your cooker, and pipes into your
home. I got myself a Home fuelling system. Works as well as the
LPG I had before. I've never heard of anyone doing CNG before,
least not on a Land rover, it's very big in Italy and doing well
in Sweden & Germany, so I'd be interested to know if I'm alone
on the CNG series front. I suspect I am.
I run a 2.5 petrol. Hopped up with ACR stuff. I notice someone
on here runs a BLOS with LPG. That is where I'm going next, and
frankly, because a BLOS will do CNG as it will LPG, I want to
pick his brains!

You run your leafer on household gas? How does this home
fuelling kit work and how much does that work out cost per
litre?

Welcome along. Interesting to hear.
What sort of LPG system do you currently use? Actually never
mind that lets get some pics up on the members motors bit. :)

This is what seems to confuse everyone. It is Gas, as in 'Gas'
cooker, not LPG. A mile from LPG, but uses much the same system
to burn it as LPG, hence going for a BLOS next. The tanks are
heavier, it's big in Germany, Sweden & massive in Italy. India
too.
CNG is a subject in itself. No filling stations to speak of, so
it is not for all of you. You need Home fuelling which requires
a compressor. CNG is another form of LNG, for which 'Chive'
have an HGV network in the UK. It tends to be HGV fleets that
use LNG. i think DHL use CNG in soem of their van fleet.
Councils like it.
Honda do a car in the US, that if you Google it best expalains
it all.
Of all teh mainstream fuels LPG is the cheapest, because of the
duty. I have vehicle fuel duty to pay too, but because of my
domestic leasing arrangements, my piped gas cost is minimial and
the off-peak electricity cost to compress (which for most of
you woudl be the lower cost) works out at about 10-12p per
petrol equivelant gallon, so that is the highest. (Excluding
duty) That is the 'up-side', and why it is a good-fit for me.
The 'down' does not worry me too much. They are:
1. Limited range comapred to LPG, say 200 miles (at best) ,
whereas my 2 x 60L saddle tanks did 350+ on LPG alone. Most of
my milaeage is within that range.
2. Very high initial costs, but on my mileage, I have most of
this cost back already in savings, so bring it on...
3. Say CNG to most and you get 'clueless' reactions, so you're
on your own. Even with so caled LPG specialists. I have spent a
lot of time on Indian forums to get to grips with it. In the UK,
most don't truly 'get' LPG so CNG throws them. Time and time
again, it has happened, they carry on as though you said LPG.
To look at, the instaltion on my 109 is virtually the same as
LPG would be, only the tanks look more like welding cylinders.
CNG would not suit most.

One more problem with it, most of the info on it is in Italian,
or Polish, because the tanks and kit are amde there and that is
where it gets sold en masse. Fiat & Opel make CNG cars.
Try to find info in English, and maybe that'll expalin my use of
Indian forums. They seeem to chat about CNG in Englsih. Which
is why, if it grabs you, look for Honda CNG. It's all in Yank.
Would I recommend it to soemone in my position, absolutely, but
I did it because I wanted to, but I'm far from typical, but is
it for you? Probably not.

What made you go down the CNG route in the first place? It's not
the obvious choice of fuel that's for sure... oh, and get some
pics sorted, both of the vee-hickle and your CNG set-up.

Welcome along dude. my 88 runs on lpg which seems a whole lot
easier than this CNG
