Hitachi Trains Facility at Newton Aycliffe

There are knowledgeable people on here much more 'into' all
things railways than me-perhaps they can help me or give me a
steer in the right direction on this one. The assembly plant at
Newton Aycliffe is a done deal. Most of the info I can find on
the web mirrors that which has been in other media. ie trains
assembled in plant, join network via link to existing historic
branch line Darlington North Road, Shildon, Bishop Auckland.
Anyway use that (towards Darlington) to get onto East Coast
mainline. But: t'other day lots of Network Rail vans flying
around on local roads stopping at non rail related vantage
points, and at lunchtime today what looked like a detailed
aerial photographic survey by helicopter from the East Coast
line to the Hitachi site. To me, and I freely admit that my
conclusion might be utterly wrong, it looks like a new, direct
spur between the factory site and the East Coast line is-at
least-under consideration. Why am I bothered? 'Cos the obvious
route would go right through my place...

Thanks for that-a test track certainly won't need to come
anywhere near my place-wouldn't make sense for it so to do.
