109" Safari Stawag

Finally bought my first leafer this weekend! Got it off Sam
Safari, who's a thoroughly top chap, and I couldn't be happier
with it!
It's a 2 1/4 petrol with overdrive, HD springs, the full 12
seats and some pretty straight panels.
Calum picked me up at Liverpool airport and we flew up in the
88" to collect it, cheers Calum!

Did a spot of laning, but I'll be buggered if I can remember
where it was exactly. (Howarth?)

Had a bit of a spin around manchester too, staying there for a
couple of nights.

Currently on the boat back to Norn Iron, can still see Liverpool
and I'm bored already.
Main priorities for the next couple of weeks are to clean up and
paint the chassis, and fit the lpg kit i picked up off ebay when
I was over, then it just wants a T cut and a bit of fettling
before using it daily!
Any thoughts on keeping the Avon Rangers as daily tyres? Haven't
really had them out in the wet yet, quality looking tyre though!

thats a good looking motor, if fitting lpg seriously think about
getting hardened valve seats fitted to the head as gas is a bit
harsh on them.

Thanks lads! Been considering hardened seats or maybe a
flashlube system as part of lpg.
I'll probably get hold of a spare head to get the seats hardened
in etc. and just run on the original as-is until that's sorted.
That way I could keep standard unleaded in the tank as well,
without a need for any additive.
Looking forward to doing a few jobs on it, I must say!

Deal with it when its a problem,I would (did)
after about 20k of hard use on LPG it was still fine (until I
boiled it, then it wasnt :haha: )
The cost of hardened seats is cheap enough IMHO additives arent
worth it
BTW, why call it a Stawag :-? sounda quite :gay:

Sounds like the most cost-effective way, that. I had a similar
mindset when using my old A-series powered motah daily,
thrashing 20k a year under it on a standard head, with no
additive. Being a boggo head, I could pick one up for not much
more than the price of a bottle of valvemaster, and I'd imagine
a 2.25 head won't be too much more.
I've only heard people use the word stawag on the continent, but
as the other old motor is called stitib, stawag seemed
appropriate :eek:

Nice looking motor,have got 2 stationwagons myself and to me
they realy are the mutts nuts,also i have lpg fitted on the
2.25 and as others have said deal with the head as and when it
starts being a problem,i managed to pick up a head for £200 off
of ebay from a bloke who was doing them but i have no idea who
it was now,i also had a head done at a garage a few years back
and that also cost £200.

Where have you mounted the tank in your SW? Would you have any
photos of tank, pipe routing, mixer arrangement and filler etc.?
I'm thinking of putting the cylinder tank North-South along
where one rear bench is, to save messing with under seat tanks
etc., but to still give me the full benefit of folding middle
row for long loads. :-?
