Prety much yep,
Keep it pinned down on something flat so that the skin doesnt
kink futher arround the the edge of the frame
I used a large flat screw driver to leaver the skin up, against
the frame. I ddi it in two stages going all the way arround,
bending it half way and then all the way up
If they are old doors you may want to anneal the alumimium as it
might crack (will have to google doing that)

Done a bit more this week,
Seatbox finished

Sorted the issue with a lack of lids - they arent the same as 4
or 6 cyl to be awkward. Centre one from a 110V8 fits, passenger
one from a 110V8 with its catch removed and a series one fitted
has that covered (needs some trimming of the seatbox edge, but
best I can do for now) and the drivers one straight from a 110V8
- all matches the parts book now (cant see how my drivers one
was secured if there at all as no screw holes and no holes for a
series or defender style catch as the parts book shows)

Tub repaired
[IMG]
HTML http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e64/landyrover/S3%20109V8/SAM_0404.jpg[/img]
blasted door frames
[IMG]
HTML http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e64/landyrover/S3%20109V8/SAM_0400.jpg[/img]
and wheels
[IMG]
HTML http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e64/landyrover/S3%20109V8/SAM_0408.jpg[/img]
Seat runners now sorted as well, just need to replace the zinc
plating on them and the seatbox and seat frames can be
reassembled
Next - sort the tub out, reassemble the doors and paint the door
tops so they can be glazed

Not all that much has happened for a few reasons (mostly work,
some deciding changing my Rover V6 cambelts myself was a good
idea)
Seatbox modifications finished - now converted from 110 to stage

Proper primer followed and I made a mess of that so no pics
:embarrassed ... back out with the sand paper tomorrow for
attempt 2
Soon be ready to go back together ... just need to find some
parts suppliers who are actually in any way interested in
selling the parts they stock :shakinghead

I am amazed at the work going into this one, and the attention
to detail. 8) 8) 8)
Can I ask what type of paint you're using?
also...

If I can jump in here, the paint is the 'Craftmaster' stuff
which Tommy just got a spunking in. And I've bought (well,
FenTiger did and I've yet to pay him) the same 'Java Green' for
my 109" V8.
Top stuff, suitable for such a rebuild as Alex is doing. 8)

On the paint front - As drew says its from Craftsmaster paints.
It is a coach enamel - not cheap but you get what you pay for.
Best to use the varnish as well, especialy on bright colours. I
havent on my 88 which is DBG, but I am doing on the Java green
As for staightened the tub. I meant removed the dents, crumpled
bits etc.
The how bit, some hammers a sand bag and some pannel beating
hammers, with a bit of filler as the final finish

Did you thin it for spraying? and how well did it spray
(compared to, say, cellulose) ?

Yes,
You cant spray it without thining - it will just about come out
the gun, but far to thick
I end up 10-20% thinners depending on temperature and whether im
doing topcoat or primer
I have never sprayed cellulose, but from what ive heard of it
this would be quite different to spray.
It takes a long time to dry (to allow for brusing I guess, but
most enamels do)
Trying to build up coats seems a little pointless, the same
effect is achieved with a light keying coat then one top coat
(if done in several thin ones the previous one softens and they
become one anyway) - so trying to build up allot of paint that
way doesnt work- it runs (found that out the hard way), may as
well do it in one pass
Unlike cellulose you cant cut it back (same goes for any enamel
realy), you need to get it right out of the gun. (small bits of
dust etc can be pollished out but not runs or orange peel
effect)
It takes a long time to dry properly, touch dry quite quick, but
if you mess up and get it to run you can froget sanding it out
inside a week
Having said that it by far the easiest paint ive ever used to
apply, so easy not to mess it up
