Replaced engine. now no gears

So I just swapped my 300tdi for another. The engine went in
quite smoothly and I could select some gears straight away. Now
the engine is assembled I could select all gears apart from 4th.
With the engine running I couldn't select any gear and then I
put it into low range the truck started creeping fwd then
stalled.
When trying to engage reverse it grinds like a bastard.
I cant think what has been altered.
The clutch has resistance.
This has been a bad end to an incredibly shit job.
When a garage says you can come down and help but you end up
doing all the work and then he still gives you a huge bill you
know you have been had. :smiley-furious:
Ironicaly putting the engine in is the only time he has touched
my truck.. I have done everything else. :loser:
My wife wants to contest the bill and get the truck out of
there. They say they will look at it next week. I go away for
4 months at the end of the week so time is pressing.

Clutch plate stuck to flywheel? Start in high/lo neutral and 2nd
gear. Depress clutch and push in to high range. should hopefully
free it...

Sounds like clutch probelms, could be the thrust bearing got
dislodged when you were bunging the engine in and wedged itself
off the fork. Had it happen on teh 88, gave similar symptoms.

So gearbox off to have a look. The trouble is the lazy fucktard
keeps saying he'll have a look just like he said he would do the
job and I would "help".
He's such a fucking cunt I'm off soon and he's fucking mugging
me off.
I'm looking into just taking my truck and take it onto camp
where it can wait for me when I return. I wanted to go to
Morocco when I came back hence changing the engine in the first
place.
He charged me 2 whole days labour and he has done up 2 bolts on
my truck helped put the engine in which he fucked up it seems
and that was it.

You need to sort a workshop weekend, shame it's not the begining
of summer really.

That would have been a good idea. For what he charged I could
have bought all the tools and crane and done the job properly.
But lessons learn't. I might try starting it in gear tomorrow
when he's not there and see what happens. Have you done the gb
on your 101. Is it easy to move back. I've got the winch
attached so is jacking it up and back an option.

Could just be the gearbox input shaft sticking in the flywheel
spigot bush. I've had this before, and thought it was the
clutch, as it causes all the gears to crunch. It should be
greased when the engine/gearbox is fitted. If this is the case
I freed mine by leaving the handbrake on, selecting a gear and
keeping my foot on the clutch pedal.

Now that might make sense as he didn't have the correct one so
he grinded one shorter to fit.
So can I try and free this.
It doesn't engage gear when the engine is running.
so I could engage gear, turn engine on. and see what happens.

If it comes to moving the box, drop the pto off first. Should be
hashish on a gs . On an ambi its a real pig.

I've had a trauma with one of those bushes causing a dragging
clutch too - once (after a fair bit of head scratching) I'd
worked out what was up with the beggar, I proceeded to sit with
the clutch down and the motor in gear (having started it in gear
with the clutch down), and reved the engine to about 2000rpm for
a good minute or so - after with it was problem solved...
