       Been lurking

       Hello,
My name is Dave, i have been lurking about for a little while,
I started off in February by buying my first series Landy, it is
a 1980 S3 Petrol, on my way home it broke down 4 times the last
brake down it blew the end can apart, Turned out to be dodgy
contact points and a fuel tank full of gunk. That was quickly
fixed and all was well, Until i decided to give the chassis a
good clean and paint and found the chassis had been filled and
was rotten. Totally pissed off i went looking for a second hand
chassis, when i came upon a rather unloved Series 2 with over
drive, but the PO had removed a lot of the original parts IE
the front end, but i got it for a song, so the rebuild began.
Now this will upset some people, but i used my series 3
bulkhead, wings etc on the series 2, Got it all working but 5
miles later the engine let go with a nasty knocking sound and
the gear box started jumping out of gears, so i pulled the
engine and gear box out and fitted the series 3 units, I went
through the MOT with no problems. I would like to restore it
back into a proper looking series 2, but trying to get hold of
the front rad panel, wings and bulkhead is not easy, i live in
London, and all the parts that come up for sale are way up north
and collection only, but i'm not in a rush and one day it will
be looking like it was supposed to. At the moment it upsets the
rivet counters but i don't care, I own it , like it and use it
every day. I have done all the work my self, welding, painting
etc i have never done any thing like this before so am quite
       please with the out come.

Well done mate. So what if it is not original, its on leaf
springs, its being used and you like it that is all that really
       matters.

       Welcome Dave
I have a 2a front panel for sale
It will need the bottom repaired/replaced
But as you can weld this wont be a problem
I will take a tenner for it.

Nice that there's another one on the road, and if it annoys the
rivet counters, so much the better ... ;-) Iain Banks reckons
that a series Landy is the ideal car for London. Welcome.
