       Handbrake suddenly failed?
   DIR By: inglishg

Just had a call from my daughter who has been out in The Shed...
She says the Handbrake has stopped working.
I've not had a look myself, but it WAS working last night, so
don't know a reason why it should suddenly fail.
The only thing I've recently done was to top up the t-box and
gearbox last night, and thoroughly grease the prop and UJ's.
Any thoughts? We're off to Bala this afternoon, so I hope it's
an easy fix before setting off...

       Full of oil?

Maybe a clevis pin has unwound itself and fallen out.
I wouldn't worry too much. Until I took mine apart and sorted it
properly it only ever worked enough for an MOT test, and the
rest of the year I never used it.

On mine, the pointy end broke off the ratchett pawl.

       Well...the cause:
       Full of oil :o
Seems my maintenance the previous evening was a mistake. I
should have left the t-box with very little oil in!
I presume the seal is an easy fix?

Not too bad to do, did it on TET the other day, rear prop and
drum off followed by the drive flange
thingamejigi'vforgottenthenameoff, you may want to drain the box
to stop all the oil running down through where the seal is, I
fitted new handbrake shoes as well but if theres plenty of life
left in them a good clean up and even maybe burn the
contaminated oil off with a blow torch and you'll be sorted mate

Also underneath the washer and large nut holding the drive
flange thingamejigi'vforgottenthenameoff is a felt washer as
well, like the ones on the end of 10 spline half shafts

And pay the extra couple of quid for a genuine seal rather than
a random shitpart one....It will then last another 20 years
       rather than two weeks...

This all assumes the sealing surface on the output flange isn't
badly scored as can often happen..
