running fast and over-running

My 2 1/4 in the 86", with SU carb and Power plus kit, has just
started running fast- ie as if the choke is out or the
accelerator stuck on.
Started 2 days ago and I cant find the source. Seems that all
of the levers are returning fully.
As coincidence(?) it is also over-running when I switch the
ignition off; key to off, and the engine does a couple of extra
turns.....
Any ideas?? :2mo5pow:

My mini does the same when either the timing/distributor is a
little to far advanced or is running too rich.... air filter not
blocked??? hose collapsed restricting air flow and so over
fuelling?? just a couple of thoughts :popcorn:

Does it still do it if you give it some revs and let it flick
back to rest under its own spring tension? Had a similar problem
in my 1100, turned out to be a recent but cheap throttle cable
which had corroded inside and gone sticky. Not sure if yours is
a cable or rod, but it could be worth a look!
£2 in the local cycle shop saw me with a suitable cable to cut
down for the job, been fine ever since! >rock<

That gives me a few things to look at...
The only cable is the choke and that seems to be returning
decently.
The throttle is a rod set up- so happy with that. Doubled up
the return springs a few years ago so it is a pretty good
return.
The air filter is a K&N jobber so it should be ok but I will
whip it off anyway and have a look see.
Float valve not sealing sounds possible.....
Best get checking ???

On mine the throttle butterfly spindle is prone to sticking and
preventing full closure (even with extra throttle return
springing) if not kept lubed up.
