Leaking petrol tank.

Bastard fuckpig petrol tank is leaking on my Series 3. Stepped
out the door this morning and thought the land rover parked on
the road was smelling of petrol more than usual. Quick
inspection revealed a leak on the underside somewhere. Bit
difficult to establish exactly where but I think it's the seam
on the bottom edge. Anyway, looks like I need a new tank. It's
an 88 inch 1981 Series3. So where's the best place to get a new
tank that is more likely than not to fit correctly without
having to botch and bend bits to get the thing in. Should I stay
away from a Shitpart one or are they OK. What options do I have
regarding manufacturers and is it worth getting a stainless one.
If the tank is the same as a Series 2 fitting then I'd be
tempted to get a stainless tank and swap it onto the S2 and use
the one on there on the S3.

Nope, however I did find it much easier fitting one to a 109
rather than a 88 which was a PITA of the highest order.
Better still are the mil under seat tanks, take about 5 minutes
to fit!

Mil tanks? Why are they easier to fit? Are they smaller capacity
or is is because they are top fill. I have two mil tanks in the
garage but the filler on one of them leaks I think. They look
like they've been in a Station Wagon as they have a step cut out
of the bottom edge.

I find that the biggest PITA of changing fuel tanks is lining up
the filler / breather hose.
It's seems a simple enough job to do, one that I just don't seem
to have mastered yet (where's that brick wall smiley!)

I did mine with Frost Autos Por15, it was not cheap but cheaper
than a new tank and has worked a treat. Amazing how the mpg
improves when the tank is not leaking !!
