MISSING: MY SECOND GEAR

hi all after singing its praises for crossing a 2 foot deep ford
without a splutter, my series 2a responded by refusing to go
into second gear. It just will not go in at all. Any ideas?

Just had the cowl off and I can't see anything wrong with
selectors, anything else I could try?? Is there anything else.I
can get to check without dropping the gearbox??

Not really. likely candidates are the selector hub or the bush
it sits on that have a habit of dying.

Update! Dropped the oil and there was a bit of very small metal
filings in the sump.plug is this normal???? I also found the
part below swimming around. Does anyone.recognise it??

3rd/4th synchro clip complete........ if this one fell out,
chances are that one of the other two has found it's way into
1st/2nd gubbins. Box out and in bits for best results!

Available on Friday, Saturday (I think) and possibly on Sunday.

where about are you bouncing brewer? hellish generous of you.
Sounds daft but its running really well again now and soooooooo
much quieter after changing out the oil! Guess its gonna need
doing if those clips have come off though, i already have my
other 2a in complete strip down and my series 1 is down to the
chassis and my defender is for dale so i have a few jobs to do
on that!....... i don't want to take another land rover to bits!

Just north of Sellafield - a little place called Braystones.
I also have a Series III gearbox sat spare on the garage floor
if that's any use to you (don't know the difference between the
boxes) - could swap the box and then rebuild at your leisure -
then drop it back when you're done.
Friday got to take a look at the sister in laws Fuckus, Saturday
& Sunday should be free.
