Clutch problem (or "am I a idiot")

When I put the Prima in my 80 I fitted a new 9" Series 2 clutch
(Britpart...) as I already had one and it saved buying the
preferred 9.5" 2a setup.

After about 100 miles or so I had trouble getting it to
disengage and I very nearly had the whole lot out again when I
figured out the centre levers on the cover were too far in, and
the release bearing wasn't disengaging enough. So I adjusted
them up though the holes in the bellhousing and carefully set
the freeplay as described in the manuals. All worked well until
coming back home from Jan's do I gradually "lost" my clutch!! On
the last night I had the floor out and the levers had shifted in
again. I adjusted them up, set the pedal again and all was fine
though I have been gradually losing the adjustment since, taking
it up on the pedal linkage to allow disengagement until there
was nothing left again. I did think one of the springs had
broken but when I had the floor up today everything looks
intact.
I'm convinced the adjusters (big hex nuts with the slotted stud
in the middle) are turning as the engine flies round, but why?
Am I missing something, do you lock them off somehow? There are
no lock nuts. I've never messed around with a clutch like this
before so it's all new to me. I did check the levers were all
equal height before I put the thing in. Or is it just a blue box
special!
I do have a 2a diesel clutch with the boss in the middle to fit
when I get a chance - but to keep it going for now I have
permanently locked the lever nuts with a tack of weld on each
one! Rough I know but it works... :smilewide:

I think the nut is usually locked by centerpunching the collar
of the nut into the slot.

The big nuts are the locknuts like a bigger version of the
adjusters on the tappets. Just been up in the loft and found the
9" borg and beck clutch kit ive got.

Ah ha! Cheers Bob.
So are they supposed to come centrepunched or do you do them?
All three weren't done on mine. I guess they aren't going to
shift now though :-\ ... :haha:

Thats brand new still wrapped in the brown paper so I'd guess
they should be done in the factory.

Thought so. Just done some reading "elsewhere" and someone else
has had the same thing. Ah well, lesson learnt (again)
