We had this happen on a mates gayer while off road at a pay and
be gay site...his CV joint exploded and all the bits jammed in
the swivel and prevented and right hand lock.. 45 mins saw the
hub stripped and the halfshaft out and on his way
home......while i carried on tootling through the same section..

Stripped it down and discovered the problem.
There was a bearing cap stuck in the swivel housing jamming any
right lock. The bearing cap had come off one end of the UJ
'leg', and the other end the bearing cap was working its way out
too. There was only one circlip I could find in the housing, and
I stripped it right down. So what happened to the circlip on the
cap that was still attached but working its way out ?
I can only assume that a PO when he (or she of course !) was
replacing the UJ they were too busy having a smoke or nattering
to his Mrs (or Mr) to notice that he had not put on the circlip.
Must thank him for giving me such an adrenaline rush.
