Steering seized,, very very nasty !!!

Driving along in my 1965 ex mil FFR, done some 750 miles since
on a new galvanised chassis. Going around a right hand bend when
suddenly no more right lock, just managed to pull enough to
avoid going down a 6ft drop :WTF. Having stopped and stopped
shakeing i discovered that the front wheels were fine from full
left lock to straight ahead, then it was like it had hit the
steering stops, no way would the wheels turn to the right. Of
course being the bright sort of chap I am I had left my phone at
home :haha: so it was 4 mile walk, of course I had the dog too
so everyone sped past thinking I was just taking it for a long
walk !! Took off the tie rod and discovered it is the left front
wheel, nothing to see from the outside. When you turn the hub
when it gets to straight ahead it is like it has hit the stops,
absolutely solid metallic feeling stop.
Going away on holiday on Sat, so no time to strip and before I
go. Don't think I have ever heard of this happening before, it
could have been very very nasty. Anyone got any ideas ?

Struggling for ideas on that one
All I cant think of is something somehow is jamming the UJ on
the halfshaft stopping it bending that way - UJ fallen apart
maybe,
cant see what else in there would be affected by left or right

The halfshaft theory would only hold if FWH were fitted.
Possibly a knacked TRE, kingpin, or lower bearing. Strip and
check I'm afraid.

FWH are fitted, put them on about 100 miles ago.

With the steering rods off though a TRE is ruled out
I would be surprised if the Rialko bush could provide enough
force to stop a determined effort at steering - and onyl stop it
in one direction ... definitely an odd one

All TREs new at rebuild, were sh---art tho, but all are removed
with tie rod anyway, its defo in the hub somewhere.

can only think of lower bearing nackered in swivel housing or
UJ jammed.
not funny.

That sounds a tad unpleasant... as others have said, it's hard
to see what could jam up, apart possible from a UJ, but I'd be
interested to hear the final conclusions as and when they are
drawn...
