In between going to Essex for Skoze's 18th/moving Munkie's stuff
       in/eating BBQ/meeting up with Joskin + Menice/drinking/putting
the portable engine to bed for the year, I did some more
boltupification, got the exhaust hanging OK, changed a couple of
engine gaskets, moved it out of the shed as we have some
internal movement to do and threw the roof on. Toby has loaned
me the radiator from his 80 to get me running, and sorted out a
brake light switch. What a star - thanks pal.

Tonight's shed-time saw the Farlow-loaned radiator removed from
Toby's front panel, put in mine and plumbed up, I left the drain
tap at home so didn't fill up tonight. Apologies for the
       kwalidee picture.

Barked up with a slight tweak to the timing, all the gears work
and it feels pretty good! The selectors are tight but got more
free if the afternoon went on.
Massive thanks to Toby the Tiger, Munkie and my pal Jim for all
their help over the past few weeks. Jim's got the other 80 in
the first video and drove it up for a test run before we go to
       Switzerland.
Still plenty to do (chiefly wiring - and sort a water leak) but
       it won't be long now.

Hopefully I'll sort the water leak this week, we're away the
next three weekends with the steam engines but the 80 might well
come with us if there's room on the low loader :D Then I've got
a week off to get a test on it and do a few miles... this is the
       plan anyway!

Hey this is nearly finished! Toby of the Fen has been a
superstar and finished off the wiring so now everything works
and it even stops now which is a bonus.
Minor end-of-the-world stylee disaster last week when the engine
started playing up; ran like a bag of spanners and removing the
rear two leads gave no change in engine note. Replaced
everything ignition-wise to no avail, so took the head off.

Luckily no other damageifaction so my pal Jim, up from Surrey to
help with the steamers last weekend, picked up a gasket and
changed it yesterday morning while I got steam up on the Robey.
       What a star!!
It runs much better now but the increased compression has K'Oed
the rubber coupling on the starter motor bendix. Apparantly
these are only fitted on 80s and perish with age, you can fix
them for about £35, and later (better) starters don't fit.
       Rolling Eyes
Other than that I'm pretty pleased with it, hopeful for
Switzerland, if it breaks down on the way to Dover though I'm
       taking something else Laughing

After loads of hard work we're on the road again!!
Fairly hectic few days; Toby the legend very kindly came over on
Friday evening to suss out my charging circuit, during which I
almost passed out with a headrush/eye monging/energy sapping
spaz (caused, Munkie said, by "Britpart lunches" as I'd been
down there that day Laughing) Like the true superstars they are,
Tobe and Munk sorted it out while I monged.
Saturday morning I took it for test, the second real drive after
an illicit twilight dash from the farm to my house earlier in
the week. Went well and the tester found sod all wrong with it
except for play in the front swivels. An easy fix, thinks I.
Back at the farm I pulled them apart and discovered the bearings
and pins were shot to bits. A mild panic later, phone call to
various OLLR leg ends for advice, and Ginger Neil (33x12x50 of
this parish) came up trumps with a pair of swivels lying in his
garden. Picked them up, fitted them with the aid of my dear
wife, back to get it's first green ticket since January 1975.
Majorly chuffed and looking forward to our Euro trip this week -
it's 20 miles less than 'Chez 5292', what could possibly go
       wrong? Laughing
Huge huge huge thanks to everyone who has helped get it back on
the road and fulfilling my dream of having an 80... Dave B, Jon,
Alex, Neil, Tobe, Annabel, Luke, Boots, Jim, Munkquad, Matt P..
too many to mention but you know who you are.
Oh the dog likes it too...

Well it made it to Switzerland and back and is running like a
       champion.
We went down the night before our ferry to stay with my pal Jim,
who doesn't really do 'pootars but has LYO839 the other 2-litre
80 that went with us. I was worried at first as even with a new
regulator box and a dynamo given a 'jolt' by Toby, the charge
light refused to go out. Mr Knight snr told me not to worry,
just keep running it and it would wake up. And it did! Smile
The next morning we set off and 5 minutes down the A3 it conked
out!! Despite cleaning the tank three times small sandy
grit/shit was being drawn through. It stopped twice more and I
was about ready to take it back home, when we met up with the
others at Folkestone TF fitted a man-sized monster inline filter
to replace the blocked one and someone suggested cutting an inch
off the lift pipe in the tank. This done and no more probs!
There's still some crap getting in the filter, I reckon it's
varnished-up old fuel which is getting disturbed. It's had a few
tankfuls through it now and does seem to be getting better.
There's a few more jobs to do on it, the original swivels need
rebuilding and probably converting to Railko bushes and the
transfer box needs a dose of looking at as it's stuck fast in
high box. Otherwise I'm dead chuffed with it and TBH I'm sick of
Landy spannering for the moment so I'm just going to enjoy it,
       it's great!!
