Paddocks - un-fucking-believable
DIR By: NoelC

The dismal quality of parts and customer service we're expected
to put up with is beyond me. I've ordered a couple of outriggers
for the 109 from Paddocks as I ran out of time before the MOT
and needed something fast. One has turned up, Shitpart, as to be
expected, shit but useable. The second has no manufacturer
details and is the front of rear body outrigger that has the two
tabs to bolt the body onto. Or at least it should do. No tabs.
Got onto Paddocks, this part is incomplete, should have body
mounting tabs on it. Their answer is it doesn't come with them -
fabricate your own. FUCK OFF. Why should I? They're in integral
welded part of the outrigger and bloody well ought to be on it.
Paddocks charge £16.50 and supply a defective part, Famous Four
charge £1 more and supply the complete article.

That does depend on the maker,
The last ones I fitted (to my stage 1) were genuine LR (by the
labeling very old genuine LR) and they were supplied without the
body mount tabs

I just fitted one to an 88 today (from Craddocks) and that
didn't have the tub mount tab, but the tab on the original was
good so I cut it off and welded it to the new outrigger, what
are your tabs like, I know you shouldn't have to but it may be a
quick fix for the MOT?

Had a passenger door top from them a few weeks ago, got it
painted ready for glass, and surprise surprise the glass doesnt
fit - managed to get it together and fit it to the doors, shut
the door and the glass shattered. Spoke to some bird there, and
she was supposed to be getting back to me nearly 2 weeks ago..
still heard nothing. Im off today so am going to ring them and
find out what is happening. Needless to say I need another door
top, some glass and another fitting kit now... (im going to see
if they will just send me a glazed door top instead, since they
have messed me about).
Im thinking of changing suppliers as im hearing nothing but
horror stories about them just lately.

bit off topic but paddocks seem to be a little more
understanding of my anti britpart policy! basically when i
order on the phone i state the part number, get them to check
its in stock, get them to check its britpart if britpart i dont
order / ask for oem if not possible i dont buy/ go
elsewhere.... ( if others did this then maybe suppliers may
start sourcing bits form elsewhere )
i also quite like that their next day delivery is indeed next
day. The company i work for can ship our products anywhere in
the uk next day.. the other 2 suppliers of LR bits i order from
use the same courier as us so i know its possible.... I often
buy bits , pay for next day delivery ( & yes this is a morning
order ) & the bits will turn up anytime within the next week..
indicating that they never actually had the parts in question
in stock in the first place!
i might be hard to please though.... i am yet to find a supplier
i am totally happy with but i wont go grinding that axe here

I just fitted an exhaust from them to an 88 (not bought by me,
it came with the truck) and had to weld in a 2" piece in the
down pipe, it didn't look bent and I could see no other way!!
Anyway, it's on now but I won't be using one again!

Diesel and Petrol exhaust downpipes have about 2 - 3"
difference... (I know ive done the same thing when ive had the
wrong one but CBA to go and fetch a correct one)
I cant complain at their exhausts as all of ours have them and
they are cheap enough at £50 for a whole system, but they still
havent sorted my door tops! I will hear from them on Monday
apparently.

Has anybody ever tried some diff gaskets from them?
I ordered 4 to be used when I refurbed the SWB aXles. 2 for
immediate use and 2 as spares. You never know how talented you
are when fitting these lumps and fuck one if those paper gaskets
up.
So...
4 arrived, none fitted. Wrong size.
I called them and complained. The girl said, no problem I will
send new ones out to you free of charge.
I said, fine, but please make sure they are NOT the same ones as
last time, and try them on a diff or axle case first.
Yep she said, a colleague will make sure they fit.
Fine I thought.
Guess what? Received another 4 of the same make ( proper
Klingersil material ) but wrng size, Too big IIRC.
Now, two years and a letter of complaint later, which I never
received any answer to, I thought, lets give them a try and get
some new diff gaskets for the spares cupboard.
And guess what.... Still the very same crap!
So iTs either my axles or they are selling unfittable diff
gaskets for more than 2 years now.
i bought a NOS box of 20 off ebay meanhwile and never again used
Paddocks since..... Unbelievable...
Regards
TrueS2
