I do like the rear PTO on a series Land Rover, and your set up
is kwality with a kapital 'K'
'Trouble is, for the price that the complete set-up seems to
sell for, I could buy a decent Fordson Standard N to run the
saw-bench. As it is, I have something with a little more power
to hand so it's all academic.
I'm still tempted though, just to add to my ridiculous
collection of rare-optional-Series-kit that one day I might
actually do something with... ::)

Hi, I am very much with ouy there - i do have a JohnDeere 2030
all wheel drive for the more serious bits of work.
No real "need" for the Series 2 having a PTO, bbut its just
something you "need" to have after so many years of owning it.
:smilewide:
I am nearing 20 years ownership of this particular SWB now and
felt I want to have a PTO while rstoring it 5 years ago, so
managed to cobble
the pieces together over the course of several years.
The easiest was the gearbox take off. Then I found an incomplete
rear PTO gearcase with a missing flange and shot shafts but
cheap locally.
A year later, a cracke dhousing showed up cheap on ebay
australia with the other bist I needed.
All this was finished off with a made-tpo-order drive shaft from
the local GKN people for surprisingly small money.
The belt drive is just the latest add on, as it was found by a
friend and he did not feel to be up to the job of refurbishing
it properly.
It has been sitting in a shed for the best part of 18 years,
empty, no oil, butechered oil seals and first signs of corrosion
on the shafts.
I was just able to rescue it and it took me a generous amount of
money to get the 4 bearings from several sources worldwise
(praise ebay)
plus had to have the housing shims made from 0,1mm sheetmetal by
a friend.
Then a set of SKF speedisleeves rescued the shafts where the oil
seals run.
Apart from byuing it initially (which was not exactly cheap, but
well affordable) it took another 1000 Euros to get it back to
working order,
and it was not defect or shod or damaged initially.... so beware
of those finds... :smilewide:
But I would certainly do it again... :giddy:
Anyway, after having brough the belt drive back into working
condition, you need something to be powered by ist.
:rolleye0012:
And is I do have cattle to keep the grass shore (highlanders to
be correct), I thought a proper belt driven saw would suit me
best.
here we are.... all of this is easier with the JD, but less fun.

That's a handy log saw, when I first looked I couldn't work out
how the wood passed the box over the blade, that final shot
explains it all, it's for cutting logs not making planks.

Oh, that is so nice I am jealous. Iv'e spent days over the
summer cutting the best part of 4 ton of chestnut from my 150
year old tree that fell into the road. All done with a chainsaw
and an axe, think I will look out for a saw to hang on to the
little Grey Fergie.
