2B Forward control, anything to look out for?

Hi all.
On Tuesday I'm going to look at a 2B forward control which is
for sale near me as I have always wanted one. The only thing is
I have never really had much to do with them so was wondering if
there is anything in particular to look out for, good or bad. I
will look at the usual land rover problem areas such as
bulkhead, chassis etc. It has a 2.25 diesel and is ex GPO.
Just wanted to make sure there weren't any issues unique to them
which I should look out for, thanks in advance, Mike.

I think they run ENV axles/ diffs which are rare and expensive
now so might be best to make sure they are complete and in
working order.

They do run on ENV...wide-track ones, which were a stability
improvement over the 2A FC, which only had rear. They do demand
a price if you need to replace
The rear axle has a 'spring over' arrangement, whilst there is
an anti-roll bar on the front.
Other than that they were basically a '1-Ton' with the driver
perched over the engine (of which there were choices beyond
6-pot). This, of course, makes some of the bodywork (most,
actually) exclusive to FC.
Some folk have replaced the 1-ton box with higher geared S3
standard boxes and fitted 235 tyres, claiming it improves the
driving experience...which is probably true. But I personally
think it's just not what the model was about; higher speed and
easier to acquire tyres.
I'm looking forward to getting cracking on mine, with the only
diversion from any Solihull fitments being a Perkins 4.203
awaiting going in and me building a tongue and groove dropside
tub for it.
Transporting one to France is costly and gay-spring killing ;D

To be honest ENV or Salisbury apart as it may have either, I
would want decent tyres and original wheels as these are a pain
to get hold of and 'can' go for silly money. And all the gear
lever link bits...
Otherwise you just have a 1 Ton or mil chassis with a second
chassis over the top and 2a bits.

Well, I went and had a look.
It has got ENV axles and they appear to be in good order. It's
2.25 diesel is sweet and dosn't smoke at all, even if you plant
it and throttle back straight away! It has a solid chassis,
needing only slight attention to one outrigger, but the bulkhead
is pretty shot. It has been stood around since 1995 so the
brakes need some attention. It has a big old GPO luton body on
top of the old tub which would make an awsome camper!
I am keen to get, just have to wait until Saturday and see what
it goes for (it's on ebay).
Fingers crossed!!

Handsome motor, with not a great deal to do, where such vintage
utility is concerned.
I've got a spare FC bulkhead over here, although I don't know if
it's 2a or 2b. Furthermore, I don't know if there's much
difference.
However, if my 2b ends up in need of new apron blessing (I
haven't proper looked yet), then I'll need it. If not, you can
have it. I was given it so there'd be an immorality to charging
for it.

Very kind of you Drew!
We'll see how I get on with the auction, then we'll see how you
get on with your existing bulkhead, then we'll see what happens!
