If handbrake drum is turning, look at following;
1) Is rear propshaft turning
2) If thats OK, then next guess would be a broken Halfshaft,or
diff problems.
Presumably doesn't drive in 2nd or 3rd either!!

Layshaft rear bearing collapsed. Needs the box out, stripped,
and checked fully. Look for gear teeth chipped, scoring on
bearing surfaces, discolouring, debris caught in synchros etc,
be very pernickety about cleanliness.

Before writing it off, why not have a stab at rebuilding it?
The lay shaft in mine snapped last monday. It's really not too
bad a job to change the layshaft bearings. Ragging the box in
and out is the time consuming bit, but you have to do that
anyway.
Splitting the transfer box off and then whipping the bell
housing off the main box doesn't take too long. You can then see
what's broke. When the layshaft snapped in mine, all it did was
damage the rear bearing. Everything else survived OK.
