       SIII 2.5 petrol conversion.

Hello again all, just a few Q's if anyone can help would be most
       appreciated.
I have a 2.5 petrol in my s3 with the 2 1/4 manifolds and carb
       on.
I'm thinking putting the 2.5 manifolds/carb on will improve
       performance efficiency etc.
       1) So I'll have to change the mixer for the LPG, anyone know if
there is one specifically for the weber twin choke (32/34 DMLT)
or just one that fits into air intake pipe.
       2) has anyone got pics of the settup for air filter/air intake
pipe/ elbow on top of carb so i can figure out the tidiest
       arrangement
       Thanks in advance !

I'm not convinced you'll see huge gains on LPG by going to all
that trouble. I've got a 2.5 petrol on LPG in my 88, initially
(whilst testing it) I ran with series manifolds and a shitty
Weber 34ICH, then swapped the ACR performance stuff on (stage 2
head, SU carb, tubular manifold etc) with a BLOS LPG carb.
Personally I'd spend my money on that first as it seems a lot
better than a mixer/power valve setup on mine and see what you
       think.
If you go Weber 32/34DMTL on a series you'll need to fabricate
an exhaust downpipe or buy an expensive Steve Parker system,
swap to a cable throttle (ideally) and have either a nasty K&N
type air filter or route the intake hose halfway round the world
to get back to the air cleaner.
I'm sure there's an argument to say the twin choke carb will
still be better on gas (even going down the BLOS route) however
it is a lot of buggering about, obviously if you were running on
petrol it would be more worth the effort I would think.

I don't think there is a mixer designed specifically for the
twin choke carb, but I'd highly recommend fitting a BLOS propane
carb inline with the twin choke weber. They're a million times
       better than restrictive mixers.
The 2.5 has a better exhaust and inlet manifold, so you should
see a bit of improvement in performance, but as Noel said you
will have to make a custom downpipe and convert to cable
       throttle.
I'm a big fan of the twinchoke carb, it's by far the best carb
land rover ever fitted to the 4cyl engines.

       "fabricate an exhaust downpipe"
Thats the conclusion im coming to regards specific mixers for
the carbs. Downpipe shouldnt be a big problem ( nitemare is
local to me and is a exhaust master )
"or route the intake hose halfway round the world to get back to
       the air cleaner."
Thats what i was thinking regards routing the air hose, gonna
look messy unless i fabricate a replacment elbow to sit on the
       carb perhaps :-?
"with a BLOS LPG carb." - Off too research these now after
hearing them mentioned several times. 8)

Cheers Goose and Noel, any good sites to look at the BLOS carb
       or where they sell them.
       Thanks again

I got mine off ebay - there is one for sale here -

If you google for BLOS lpg carb or soemthing, you should find
some information on it! A lot of it seems to be in polish
       though!

one last question, does the BLOS just replace the mixer or the
power-valve in the gas line (to carb) aswell?
Just wandering becouse the power valve is a bugger to set up
       (well without a lambda reader)
oh and thats another thought, anyone have experience of a lambda
control unit/ stepper motor setup (like the VIP 100A Tinley tech
       sell)
Just checked the price of the ACR stuff rofl so expensive!

I fitted a lambda controller to the Logrover LPG system a while
back and there are photos of it starting at the bottom of this
       page:

basically need to fit a lambda boss and sensor to the downpipe,
replace the manual valve with a stepper, fit the ECU somewhere
(i squeezed in behind dash), run some power, then tune on an old
laptop. I also fitted a small 0-1v gauge on the dash so i could
monitor the lambda reading whislt driving - which works well,
but just a nice to have really.

Many thanks, certainly thinking going closed loop may be a
refinment worth having, it seems to work well for everyone who
has refined there system in this way.And the VIP100A set up
seems to be a doddle to set up, with just a series of LED's to
show you if the mix is lean or weak.
At the momemnt im just adjusting and going for a drive to fine
       tune the gas
       Thanks again

The BLOS removes the need for the power valve as well, a huge
plus point. On my set up I have an additional vacuum gizmo that
was optional with the BLOS that shuts the gas off completely on
overrun too. It all seems to work very well and importantly (for
       me) is very simple.
