Early Sankey Trailer

Thought I would put this in here, as seen as I'm copying and
pasting the rest of the stuff from the old website.
Last August saw me acquire a Sankey trailer from somebody round
the corner to me for what I can only describe as a price I could
not refuse ;)

I can't seem to find any plates on it whatsoever, to give a
clue of which maker, reg no etc etc however when it gets a
strip down I'm sure I might find something someday.
It needs a really good strip down and rebuild, the body is a
home brew job (if you can't tell), the plans are to either
replace with a narrow track body or make a new body using the
existing framework.
Don't know if it is going to get done this year, as the 109 is
still in pieces still taking up space in the garage!

Best get the 109 back together so you can work on the trailer

I've got a 1953 one which was plated and had the T for
tropicalised, also a centre of gravity plate, mind you mine has
a small eye, a one inch fixed pin is big enough as the eye
swivels narrow track of course, body is off at the moment trying
to decide wether to repair or replace

Highrunner, I have a trailer with what I reckon is the same
body, but the towing arrangement is more like the first trailer,
I'll try and dig some old pictures and info if I can.
Id take some new ones but its down the field, locked in a
shipping container shed.

I think I will be making a new wooden tub with the price of
steel or buying a second hand one in better condition as mine is
holes surrounded by rust and the occasional bit of steel,
chassis is good, I may even consider putting a land rover rear
tub on it.

After actually looking at the pictures, I can say that its the
same trailer as mine.
But...
Mine doesn't have open ended box section spacers between tow
pole and hitch assembly. If I was feeling a bit more anal, Id
reckon that was a bad idea from an engineering point of view.
But people who've met me know that I have a liberal
interpretation of what's safe to tow with.
Mine has a real tow ring. One that fits Land Rover military
towing hitches. How well has the brake actuator/lever been
extended? Is that towing ring homemade too?
Anyway, Im off for another Good Friday beer, I wont even ask
what the trailers hung on the back of. Looks like mil
bumperettes on a tapering crossmember?

A while back Adam R of this parish told me of somebody in the
far away Wales-Land not a million miles away from Shell Island
that somebody had a Narrowtrack style body that I would be able
to have for what can only be described as scrap value. A plan
was hatched and the time came to pick up at COW and I failed,
however to the rescue came Messr. Wilkobob and his 109 who
stepped up to the mark and accepted the challenge of getting
said tub back from deepest westest Wales-Land.
The tub duly arrived, and then in true British style it
proceeded to piss it down, then it pissed it down some more and
then some more. Then out of the pissing rain came Big Chris who
I promptly collared to help me squeeze said sankey tub into the
garage whereby it could dry out and get fixated up.

The tub dried out and then I set about it with a gentle
persuasion tool, and this is what came about:

its good to see the tub being repaired its a shame it filled up

Over the weekend fabrimicated a wheel well and started repairing
the other side. On the tub, still got to make some end sections
for the wheel arch, repair some holes and repair 2 x mounts. I
have a feeling that it was either left on it's side or one half
of it was further under a bush than the other, as one half is
more noticably more buggered than the other:

Thinking to the future on how to fix the lights and fabricating
light brackets....
