That is my understanding. When passing recently on the A6 I have
noticed a new wooden post sign further away from the bridge than
the old one. The OS map does show a footpath up the dale but
there is a bridleway which runs up the steep bank to Hardybarn
lane.

Not since the last time...oops .....I mean not since I received
more information about it's status. However, Glen, I believe was
with you, and it was he who passed on the information to me. By
the way Ian, I never mentioned a footpath...I said bridleway.
If, as you say, the farmer grants permission to use the lower
route, then maybe it's o.k., but I wouldn't like to argue the
legal "ins and outs" of it without proper legal advice.
