That's taken just after I let my old man loose at the wheel to
drive 50metres down the road, only to have a Nissan Unfairlady z
slam into the side of it, Only damage done was a buckled wheel
and a muntered tail pipe, Another wheel and some brute force to
straighten the pipe, and everything seems OK.....The Fairlady on
the other hand ;-)
I should really replace the none existant spring bushes, even
just with some second hand ones, but at the moment I CBA, The
swivels also need looking at, I'm pretty supprised the roller
bearings haven't collapsed yet. Racing style toe-in FTW ;D

The Little trayback's getting more and more use recently, Moving
fire wood and shifting load after load of lucerne hay.

Back in the shed, And jacked up. I thought I was having clutch
issues, I could be wrong, But the brakes were seized solid up
front, I'm really hoping its just the brakes.

On the swivels the chrome has been peeled off in places, The
swivel bearings have been buggered long before I got it.

A view of one of the seized up front slaves, both of them need
to be replaced. I did have a look at them a few years back, but
decided to just replace the rears. I might take a look at the
rears....I really hope they are still in good fettle.
On to replacing the swivels,

I just whipped out the whole swivel and axle, The swivel UJ's
are fucked, probably been run dry for donkeys years.
Surprisingly everything came undone pretty easily, Which makes a
nice change.
The top pin had been mucked about with, being wrapped with shim
steel to try and take up some of the wear at some stage
:toothless:.

I didn't wish to use the original chrome ball, it had been
scored from the steel retainer and also the steel seal lip had
eaten into it.
I had another front axle that I had butchered for spares, so I
grabbed the grinder and lopped off the bolts holding the chrome
ball on.

Cleaned up and fitted with a new Railko and bearing race pressed

The stub axle bronze shaft bearing had disintegrated with out
oil, the coppery-looking slime on the shaft along with some
shrapnel was all that was left.
So a new bronze bushing had to be fitted.
Starting to go back together, New top pin and lower bearing
fitted, 16lbs of pull set with a spring balance.

I didn't hold much hope in the brake hoses this time around, So
new brake hoses up front, along with recon cylinders.

I was amazed that the wheel bearings had fared so well, these
were cleaned, packed with grease and re-used.

I've the same to do on the drivers side, I'll skip the photos on
this, It not as bad as this (the passengers side)

:thumbs: Glad you like it, The SLT's are a must, with a bit of
weight on the back, the suspension bottoms out, and the tray
rubs on top of the tyre. :lightblb: I need to extend the
bumpstops.

nice looking truck.
if it was a 109 it would have been cooler in flat bad and more
handy wheel barrow :D
but anyhow you have to live with what you have got :P
nice pictures of the jobs done. the end result is always
priceless :)

Cheers Joe!, A 109" probably would be a bit more practical, But
this 88" seems to cope well with whatever's thrown at it.
Spent a fair bit of my spare time the past fortnight fettling
around with odds and ends, Finished rebuilding the swivels, And
replaced the collapsed front prop for a good one. Topped up all
the oil, greased everything I could. I've fitted a set of bump
stops to the rear axle, hopefully the tyres no longer rub on the
underside of the deck when heavily laden. Whilst in the area, I
checked the rear brake cylinders, there just like the day I put
them in - I smushed a bit of red rubber grease behind the dust
seals to keep corrosion at bay. Also half way through changing a
shagged rubber gearbox mount, which is being as stubborn as can
be, So all the floors and tunnel covers have been removed, Maybe
this bust mount coupled with the seized up brakes gave the
juddering-grabby clutch issue?

Cool, The little trayback's back in working order, I managed to
radge about with the broken gearbox mount and fit the new one,
The floor panels have been fitted properly this time around,
It'll make any jobs under the floor much easier in future.

It drives a lot better, I also found that 4WD was permanantly
engaged, The pivot bolt for the yellow knob had fallen out!.
With that put back in it selects just as it should.
