well, today (on my 32 birthday) I fixed the
electrics with my brother in law...at least for now. fixed some
wires with male and female plugs that were simply tied together
and soldered.
Also, as said earlier, my 109 is fitted with a starter button
instead of the usual key operation. Measured the button and it
doesn't work properly anymore. At least, it works 9 times out of
10.
This is it btw:
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030473.jpg
Anyone seen this before on a Land Rover. I have not (but then
again... I haven't seen much Series in my life yet) and as 'Made
in Germany' is stamped on it I have a gut feeling it isn't an
original Solihull option
So question is now, do I just replace the button for another one
from the local carparts suplier, or do I switch the keylock for
a unit that makes it start with the key while I change the
wiring loom??
On a sidenote to one of the mods: how do I change the subject
title of my thread??
Thanks!

I never thought I would see the beauty in a couple of wires, but
they're almost to nice to fit
Anyway, I was awed by the friendliness and service of
Autosparks! Last friday I called them and a very friendly girl
responded to all of my questions, I ordered the 3 separate looms
on fridaynight and a week later everything arrived. In the
meantime, by email they informed me of the process. Splendid
company and excellen service, something that isn't too common
nowadays!!
Next step will be fitting the new loom, which will be done early
July together with my brother in law who's an electrician. Has
anybody done it before, how long does it take to install the
main engine bay loom and the chassis loom? I'll fit the engine
loom later.
Tomorrow I'll do a quick fix on the backlights as I need my 109
for moving and rebuilding the house and I don't have the time
yet to fit the new loom.
Yours, a happy Leafer :D
for work (exam on june 15 and 16) so there's a true lack of time
for doing stuff on my 109 at the moment
But, tonight i had a spare hour and decided to try the Nitromors
that you guys suggested me for the galvanized stuff.
Started on my front bumper: It had more silver paint on it than
even Elton John could imagine so obviously it had to go.

Dutch ex-army Zarges boxes of about 60x40x40cm. Were originally
used for transporting sensitive equipment in the service. Used,
but very nice, with thick foam on the inside. Ideal for camping
Since the moving and rebuilding is finally
coming to an end, tonight I finally had some time to give the
109 some much needed attention
First I started changing the gasket of the valvecover. This one
has been leaking for months now and I lost one of the three dome
nuts somewhere.
But when I was wrapping up the tools and all my eyes noticed a
striking pattern of black stripes on the front wheel ;
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030490.jpg
Upon closer inspection, it seams that the hub is leaking EP90
and/or maybe not straight on the axle??
See;

HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030489.jpg
I must admit that, while using the 109 for moving, I hit a
sidewalk with that wheel (tyre, not hub) whilst checking out
some (obiously) hot girl instead of keeping my eyes on the
road... so that might be the answer to the question when this
happened?
So what do you guys think is wrong?? Is it easy fixable?? And
can i ride it this weekend, as I still need the 109 for the last
moving trips on saturday???
As always your advice and wealth of knowledge will be greatly
appreciated.
Oh yeah...also noticed that one of the rear shocks is leaking
 So enough choirs to be done until she's roadworthy for
EOD!
With EOD getting up in 4 weeks, it's time to
get the 109 ready for the long trip to Dunkerque and then
Northern England and back.
Started yesterday with fitting a new exhaust muffler and
tailpipe. The old tailpipe crashed after some offroading in
January, so I've been riding without one since.
Then I changed both rear shocks. The left one was leaking since
a couple of weeks, had to grind the right one away as it was
stuck. Fitting new ones complete with bushes etc was a straight
forward job though! :D
As a last job for the saturday, I turned my attention to the
front hub and diff. As Carl and Swops pointed out, the breather
hose was indeed 'Nekked' as you guys would say
After a quick run to my local 2nd hand leafer parts emporium
(Ron Bolleboom) I changed the hose, and fitted a new hub and the
part behind the hub with the 5 screws...don't know how to call
it as I'm tired as fuck and my english isn't at best then.
Oh yeah..btw...no pics from saturday as the girl was out sailing
and took the camera with her.....sorry for the Moggsy-esque
excuse
Then today I decided to change the drivers door, as I had a
2ndhand door lying for a couple of months but didn't get to it
until today.
Btw...this is the old door
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/109deurkleib.jpg
I couldn't get the top hing of the bulkhead, one screw wouldn't
let go whatever I tried. So instead of using new hinges, I
changed the lower hinge for the hinge of the new door, as it had
less space than the old one.
So fixed the new door on the hinges and.....it wouldn't
close...somehow it is about 1.5cm lower at the point where it
enters the lock. I don't get it, as it seems okay otherwise.
Nevertheless, I couldn't get home with a door that would not
close, so at the end I put in the old fucked up door again

So here are some foto's as they are now. Must say the door never
closed good, or was lined up good, but I always assumed it was
because of the door was just fucked up. Strange thing is that
with the new door it's only worse..with the old door and the
newer hinge it's also worse ????
I made some pics of how it's now..as said, the door barely
closes. Any ideas what would solve this?? I don't see how
fettling with the hinges would do any good....
Here you see the problem;
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030492.jpg
Btw...it won't close more than this
and here;
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030496.jpg
underside seems okay-ish;
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030495.jpg
Top also..that is..it looks the same as the other side and that
one closes good;
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030494.jpg
Space between door and bulkhead seems good to me, a tad wider
than the other side maybe;
HTML http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/adesjaak/P1030493.jpg
Any ideas are most welcome...would new hinges help for
instance?? Can that solve the space of around 1.5cm at the tub
side??
Thanks

without any movement...

Do you think those hinges can go any further to the right?? I
had the bottom hinge off and I dont think the clips (in the
bulk) can go any further to the right.
Maybe I can try to undo the screw with a small torch, heaten it

The loom from Autosparks is great. Only deception was that the
plugs for the charge/oil light etc are of a different type than
the one that was fitted. On the new loom you need bulbs that are
inserted in the plug whereas on the old one the bulb is with a
screw-thread.
Think I'll give autosparks a call on monday to ask what bulbs I
need.
Can somebody tell me what the unit on the last 2 pics is for?
Well tonight was part II of the great loom
exchange experiment....Fuck!
The good news is that it's all fitted, the bad is that It does
not start and I have some electrical issues that I'll figure
out.
Some thing in the engine bay that we can't quite figure out;
- Out of the main loom of the dashboard (through the bulkhead)
there comes a single red/yellow wire with a plug on it. It's
real short, maybe 10cm of the main wire. Can't figure out where
it's for, the electrical scheme can't tell me also
- There's a brown wire going to the starter, then theres a brown
one leaving the starter that goes to the dynamo. Halfway it
splits to another brown wire that ends with a clip/ring. I did
not have it on the previous loom...where should it go? Looks
like either a + or - .
- Can anybody tell me how the glowplugs get electra? Im not sure
I fitted the wiring on the spring thats placed on the bulk
correctly. Maybe therefore it won't start? The starter is
turning over, the diesel won't fire though.
@ Rog, I tried to give you a call in case you wonder... hoping
that you could help me with getting a look under the bonnet of
one of your cars.
