NoelC's series fleet (you'll need a cuppa to make it through
       this lot!)

It's been several years since I've posted much in the members
motors section so as we're in a new place I'd better be arsed
       and compile an update.
Firstly, the two with tickets and in regular use on the road.
FMW - ex-Wiltshire Fire Bridge HRT, spent it's life at Malmsbury
Fire Station in Wiltshire until 1993ish then it went to the
County Surveyor for Wiltshire to use in inclement weather. I
bought it from Keith Gott in Alton in April 2000. It's pretty
original and straight, I've done mechanical work but other than
fit an LPG kit, electronic ignition, station wagon roof, recon
gearbox, Fairey overdrive and Turner stage one head it hasn't
needed much doing in the nearly 12 years I've owned it.

The 88. A bit of a bitser based on a 1972 series 3 with various
panelwork of dubious parentage. Pretty much all of this is new
or reconditioned. Rebuilt in 2006 on a new Marsland military
spec galvy chassis it's got a 2.5 petrol lump from a low mileage
mountain rescue boingy, electronic ignition, military
reconditioned rear axle and suffix D gearbox from L R Series,
Rocky Mountain Roverdrive, Exmoor Trim Defender seats, Wright
offroad matting and a number plate from a London Transport
Routemaster bus. Ashtree have a bulkhead and grille panel I
sourced so in the fullness of time all of the steel will be
galved. I've got a 1971 series 3 rear tub I plan to remove the
bulkhead from and fit mudrails to get a bit more space in the
cab. Currently I'm running 255/85R16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains on
6.5J one ton rims on this one.

Secondly, 97ER69, the ex-military ambulance now living in Idaho
A lot of my family live in the US and I had toyed with the idea
of getting a series left hooker to play with over there. It's a
well known fact series motors sell for a packet stateside so I
went down the route of sourcing one in the UK, doing any
necessary work then shipping it. 97ER69 came up on eBay with
less than 22k miles on the clock in very original condition even
down to the Lodge spark plugs and copper plug leads. Many hours
were spent bare metalling it and I resprayed it desert colour as
Idaho is naturally desert and it seemed quite fitting. The units
are all original however the 7:1 CR leaded head was swapped for
a Turner 8:1 performance unleaded one, a Fairey overdrive has
been fitted along with electronic ignition, alternator
conversion and an electric fuel pump. The original 750x16
Goodyears have gone in favour of 235/85R16 Cooper Discoverer
STTs on 6.5J one ton rims.

       Thirdly, the projects.
LHD, one of the first six cylinder station wagons built in 1967
and has an elephant hide interior. Not many sixes got the grey
and at one point it was thought to be the earliest survivor but
that was a few years ago, maybe another has surfaced by now.
Brigadier Arthur Valerian Wellesley, 8th Duke of Wellington, KG,
LVO, OBE, MC, DL purchased the vehicle new from Julians of
Reading and for a period of almost 21 years it was used on his
Stratfield Saye Estate near Reading, specifically at Home Farm.
It obviously did very little on the public highway as it was
exempt from road tax. LHD is a pretty standard 109 with the only
options being a MAP capstan winch and relocated remote oil
       filter.

CTV, the last 2a one ton, chassis no. 22900170H. This was a bit
of a mess when I bought it as someone had unfortunately
converted it to a Range Rover V8 with LT95. This should be an
easy project as I've got a new galvy Richards chassis for it and
Ashtree have sorted/galved the bulkhead and grille panel. L R
Series supplied me a proper one ton main gearbox and all helical
transfer gearbox and I've several sixes about the place I can
drop in. This was a Kennings recorvery truck, the earliest note
I can see in the history mentions Northern Rotary Ltd in
Sheffield in the mid 1980s so maybe they weren't the first
keeper - recovery trucks until that time ran on trade plates and
       weren't registered.
  HTML http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y372/leyland510/Misc/CTV_1.jpg[/img]
Finally, the motors that are here, kinda hanging about with no
purpose and no place in my long term plans
WPP, a very early six cylinder basic, 25th off the line. I don't
know much about this one as the first part of the history is
missing (DVLA have lost it ::)) but it was registered to an
electrical company in Brighton I think in the 1970s. There is
evidence this has been a recovery truck at some time in the
past. It was bought with the intention of breaking it for parts
for the CTV but it's too early. In the end I broke a 1970 six
cylinder for that and this has been loitering about ever since.
  HTML http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y372/leyland510/Misc/WPP_1.jpg[/img]
GFX, an ex-Southern Electric six cylinder one ton with a hi-cap
body. What can I say, it was on eBay local to me, I chucked a
bid in and it became mine for a silly cheap price. Bonus was it
had the TI Console disc brake conversion and parabolics fitted,
the disc kit is on the 88 and the springs will end up there too
in the fullness of time. The engine is sweet, the chassis is
fairly rusty but saveable and the bulkhead is horrible. It's
hanging around as the engine may end up in the 2a one ton and
I'm toying with the idea of doing that as a hi-cap as it'd be
       more useful.

  HTML http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y372/leyland510/Misc/GFX_1.jpg[/img]
TNK, an ex-Royal Navy 109 24 volt FFR. Again, bought on a whim
as it was local and dirt cheap. It hadn't been on the road for
over a decade but that didn't stop me insuring it and driving it
home (pre-booked MOT). It was dark, it had no mirrors and only
the sidelights worked. It was, err, an experience! Drove nice
though, but the chassis is beyond it really.

That's about it, when I can be arsed I'll add in the motors I
have owned that have either been scrapped or moved off to
pastures new. Hope I haven't bored you all too much.

The desert Amby photo looks ace and has to be the preferred
motor. I like GFX though 8)

Fantastic collection! Love the ambulance. Was the interior
(cab and body) in tact and if so do you have any photos you'd
       like to share?

I really like FMW, and the late 2a one ton!
Looks like youve got a fair bit of space for them!

Fantastic collection! Always loved FMW, even more so in its
original faded paintwork I'm afraid to say!
Never realised you had such an early 6 pot basic. A-suffix
engine? The Carawagon has elephant hide like LHD; or at least,
it has the original door cards. Love LHD!
In fact, I really like them all (apart from the horrific paint
       job on the FFR :D)
