Hello there from the Rusty Rhinos

Hello all. Drew from France pointed us in the direction of this
forum after his very kind hospitality today and yesterday (I am
sure there is/will be a post with the story!)
We have a 1963 S2A SWB 2.25 Petrol known as "Red". It is not to
the taste of those liking originality as things have been
changed around and chopped a bit, but it is our tool for our
overland trips and green laning in the UK and does the job very
well (apart from the latest escapade of engine failure!). I use
"we" because the car is jointly owned by my friend, Adam, and
myself, Alex, aka the "Rusty Rhinos" the name of which spawned
from our overland trips. In a lesser car we have been to
Mongolia and in our 2A we have been on round trips from England
to Algeria in 2009, Morocco in 2010 and a slightly failed effort
to get to Morocco in 2012.
Anyway just a quick post - will be browsing and no doubt
replying on the forum in due course.

Constant open door of welcome and hospitality at Drew's...which
tends to actually be a revolving door when it comes to
Land-Rover owners and their rides.
Enjoy the forum, which is a bit odd in that the software gives
you access to an increased number of forum rooms after a certain
number of posts (dan't ask me what, where and how many...it just
is :-\)
A read of the forum rules will give you an idea of the spirit of
the place, which is already in full gear on the hunt for a
decent new engine for you (see 'Sales and Wants').
Big welcome!

Welcome!
Was your trip to Mongolia part of the Mongol rally? I've wanted
to take part in that for many years now, maybe one day.... If
so, what car did you do it in? There are lots of fans of quality
old autoshite here! ;D

It was indeed part of the Mongol Rally. You should do it - and I
would recommend taking a route through Kazakhstan. However, if I
was to do it again, I would not do it as part of the organised
Mongol Rally. Each year the company that organises it seems to
become more bloated, more commercial, and more expensive. I
would say organise it off your own back. If you need some
pointers then I would be happy to help where I can :). We took a
battered Suzuki SJ 410 which bought from ebay blindly for £350
which we patched up just enough to get through an MOT...it got
there though....just!
Few pics for you :)
