200 Years of Steam

In Leeds.
The Middleton Railway was the first in the world to
successfully use steam locomotives. The first two were built in
Leeds, by John Blenkinsop and Matthew Murray, in 1812.
A model of Salamanca (named after one of Lord Wellington's
victories over the French in 1812 during the Penninsular War)

The 200 years of steam event included models, steam locos and
road steam.

It's the Middleton Railway and is certainly not new. Part of the
trackbed is the original from 1758 when this railway was built
by act of parliament as a horse-worked line. It's in Hunslet,
Leeds and runs for just over a mile to Middleton park. The park
end is on the site of Middleton Broom colliery and the line
served the collieries up until closure in the 1960s. It's always
been an industrial line and was never part of BR, although it is
still connected to the mainline.

200 years of steam and i thought we as a nation have been
drinking tea alot longer than that rofl rofl lovely pictures
though steam trucks are my faves.

The Sentinel is in the family of OLLR member YorkieV8, he will
give you all the gen on it!
Dave that is indeed an Aveling, it worked in Australia and was
completely fooked, Israel Newtons at Bradford built a complete
new boiler for it. I believe it's the oldest Aveling to survive,
1860 something. Steif probably knows more. The Fowler traction
on the low loader is nice 8)
