I'm a great fan of real cinema me, with directors such as Orson
Welles and Quentin Tarantino being amongst my favourites. These
two in-particular for their skill in creating dialogue-heavy,
non-linear storylines.
Well, I suppose their influence on the dialogue has always shone
through with the kind of tome-posts I spam the forum
with...three paragraphs when one line would do, n'that. But it's
time for the non-linear aspect to come forward too.
So, for the benefit of Mr Wooden, whom it would seem needs to
'get wood' over these articles, here's the pictorial aspect of
the first Turner delivery I took on Wednesday.
You'll recall the heads leaving in my expertly joinerified
box...

And Wednesday last saw that box return...
HTML http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Drew-5292/Acid%20Queen/IMG_0561.jpg[/img]
with this my first vision when I unscrewed the end...
HTML http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Drew-5292/Acid%20Queen/IMG_0562.jpg[/img]
These good folk of Lingfield took my pair of heads, machined the
faces to ensure they were true and did what was needed in the
way of fitting new valves, springs, etc...
HTML http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Drew-5292/Acid%20Queen/IMG_0563.jpg[/img]
They also did their 'Gasflow' thing to fetch them up to
'Performance' standard...
HTML http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Drew-5292/Acid%20Queen/IMG_0564.jpg[/img]
And this is a pretty reassuring aspect of ker-wal-er-tee
engineering, in my opinion...accountability of the individual
who re-manufactured them...
HTML http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t265/Drew-5292/Acid%20Queen/IMG_0565.jpg[/img]
They now have nice Turner Engineering serial numbers stamped
into them and are eager to leave their double coffin and take
their place atop the engine block. But, they'll have to wait as
that tractor of mine needs finishing, as does some plaster
boarding and the fitting of three bathrooms and the building of
a terrace...zzzzzzzzzzzzz
I did, however, allow myself a private moment of penetration of
the block...by offering-up the new camshaft. Very snug fit 8)
More later...as and when.
Is the ex-ambulance V8 of the high (9.35:1?)
compression variety?
I couldn't say, to be honest. It was a late engine as the heads,
although standard ten-bolt, are a part also used on later P38
RRs and Discovery of the time.
What I do know is that the compression may well have been
increased somewhat, as comparison between the heads before they
went and how they are now shows an apparent reduction in the
combustion chamber.
The Turner blurb for these 'Performance' heads does, however,
threaten you with a few more horses at the top and extra torque
at the bottom end. So if the engine wasn't 9.35:1 before, I
could well be later.

I'd mentioned earlier in the post how I was going to do
something a little special with the rocker covers...so I have.
Whether-or-not it's tasteful or the contrary is open for debate
and individual palate. But I fancied a soon-to-be Java'd Stage 1
V8 needed a stand-alone touch above the new top-end of the V8.
But the rocker covers which were on the old engine had no
'ROVER' cast into them; and with a couple of such sets at my
disposal, smartening-up a set for the re-build was what was
needed.
They've been done in chrome in the past, red, polished ali and
whatever looked good beneath the bonnet of some race weapon. But
they generally come as standard aluminum on old 3.5 V8s. So, is
this too much for Acid Queen's new engine bay?
