The Road to LATP.

---------------------------------------------------------
Ok so in preperation for the 600ish mile round trip to LATP I
started checking Ruby over.
First the brakes pulling to the right. Jacked up one corner at a
time to adjust the 6 snail adjusters.
Discovered a wheel bearing had play in it. Removed the Free
wheeling hub and tightened it up; after fighting with the
rounded allen bolts! :banghead
Then continued adjusting the brakes. Only to find one adjuster
went beyond the stop. Time for new shoes! :o
While waiting to fit new shoes thought I'd seek out the squeek.
Rear prop easy fix. ;D ;D ;D
WRONG! Couldn't find the squeek only happened when driving. Not
when jacked up and spinning things.
The on way home from work at 11.30pm sans le roof, there was a
jog through the steering wheel. :WTF
Checked it out to find a collapsed inner front bearing,
knackered drum, knackered shoes; oh and a pair of suspect ball
joints on the front drag link!
All in the build up to a family holiday before LATP.
Most jobs ticked off, wheel bearing fell out as all seperate
roller bearings, burnt metal fragments and mank!
The choice of brake drums were standard 11" or expensive 11"
(wide variety) so guess which i had???? Yep expensive! :bleurgh
30 mile round trip to get the drum and feel shafted Ruby is back
on the roadish!
Now do other side brakes and find a lightly rumbling wheel
bearing!!!! :-\
But hey back from holiday today and drag link ball joints
fitted, drop hitch fitted and now just one wheel bearing and
trailer electrics to go hopefully.

Offending articles. On the right are the remnants of the inner
wheel bearing that collapsed. Note the wheel bearing race that
split after removal, whilst laid on the bench. :banghead
Pair of drag link ball joints and a suspect wheel cylinder.

See them scrap brake shoes?? Are they the wide 11 inch jobbies?
Do they have regular rows of rivet holes in the backings? If so,
I will have them off you for a pint!! I like to hang onto
recyclable backings as I am trying to negotiate a deal with a
local commercial reliner.... I prefer rivetted, and if I can do
these as well as my narrow 11 inchers, I will have a set on the
shelf for future! (Whether for personal use or to pass on....)
Will be at Leafers.

Ok so another step closer after a friend called in a favour at
an inconvenient time. :-\ (removing a 2.5TDI V6 from his Audi)
Front passengers wheel bearing done and brake shoe alignment
screws refurbished.
The list gets shorter, although I did have some assistance.

Well it was actually my 2 1/2 year old daughter who decided to
spread my spanners all over the floor and keep taking my axle
stand to pieces before I could position it. rofl
While my pregnant wife watched and laughed!!!!!!!!! :haha:
