Went to Ripon classic car show the other day, Mick
(Jabbawockey) let me know that he had the jerry can holders that
he made for me yonks ago. Well anyway a detour to his gaff to
collect them and finally fitted them yesterday:

And fitted another grille badge that I picked up :)

I would say that my life is complete now, however I have to fit
the Solex!

Some more stuff happened today, after a chat with Mick
(Jabbawockey) he mentioned that I should be going a lot quicker
up hills than I am at the moment. He mentioned it might be the
weights in the bottom of the dizzy that have seized, I first
checked that the vacuum was working which it looked like it was
so I had a further look at the dizzy, all looked well. Removed
the dizzy from the motor, all looked well, top plate moves
freely etc removed the top plate and then thought that I would
unscrew the top screw and took out the inner part of the dizzy
and this is what I found:

The studs that move the weights, move them selves and one was
worn away, both had play in them, swapped the plate out from
another dizzy - jobs a good un. Took the motor for a spin, a
little bit more poke but nothing brilliant.
Then, I thought I would change the carb, I've had a Solex
refurbished to replace the Weber it's been sat on the shelf
since Easter time just waiting for an opportunity to fit it.
Anyway today was that oppurtunity and I am happy to report that
it's probably the best thing that has been done to the motor.
Now pulls away and pulls up hills, sits comfortably at 60, very
happy indeed >Htlr<

Nice!
I kind of regret getting a Tdi and not a nice 2.25 (only the
filling costs put me off!) as they are a lovely engine in fine
fettle!
