Damn, if I'd spotted that I'd have been over for a scrounge!
My '65 Carawagon isn't here yet (that's next weekend's job) but
I know I'll need the front seats as the originals have been
replaced with Disco or something ???

Robin he's had it for a fair few months now too, there's still
some Carawaon specific bits that you might be able to make a
deal on: Gas bottle holder, cooker looks all there, cupboard
should be good for a template, then there's a heater(?) on the
back door, the windows may be able to get rescued, along with
some of the interior diamond plate trim and carawagon badges
(all 3 in good condition). He's not a bad bloke in the way that
scrappie owners go, there isn't that many that allow you to
remove stuff yourself in this day and age. I just put all the
stuff in a big pile and said "How much do you want for this lot,
not bothered about seats but if the price is right I'll take
'em" He give me a quote via Ebay for the blinds, which I was
happy with, however as seen as it was less than a couple of
hours cabby I thought I would take a run out. Good job really
as I got the haul for less than his Ebay quote 8)

If you hadn't realised before, I'm as happy as a piggy in poo
poo with just the blinds, everything else is a bonus :) I have

some Carawaon specific bits that you might be able to make a

Hi Stuey,
As far as I know, this '65 Carawagon I'm collecting has all the
original kit, including the original fridge and cooker; it's
just the front seats that have been replaced at some time,
though why you'd do that to a Carawagon, I don't know as you
can no longer use them as a bed ???
If it gets here and I find I need more Carawagon specific stuff,
I'll be kicking myself, but that's life ;)

Robin, the same happened with this motor, somebody had replaced
the seats with boingy ones, so you couldn't use the bed.
It's worthless without the front seats and you don't need 2
carawagons anyway - sell it to me - problem sorted ;D

I would forgive you if you were from the USofA but you aint.
Little Camper is good, it's what I call it :)
However every discerning leafer owner should know that 'back in
the day' there was 2 companies that created Campervan Land
Rovers with Solihull approval, so if your not aware here is a
quick little run down:
RJ Searle
This company was based in Sunbury-on-Thames, and later became
Carawagon International. Carawagon offered many a a conversion
on Land Rovers, maybe too many IMHO, based on the 88", 109" 3
door & 109" 5 door SW. The furniture and fittings in the
Carawagons were mainly made of wood, due to RJ Searle
historically being boat builders. Carawagon are famous for
there intricate and complex pop-up roofs, however not all
Carawagons had this pop-up roof. I think the Carawagon name is
owned by a modern company who now owns the Dormobile licence.
Dormobile
Dormobile were based in Folkestone and AFAIK they only offered
one conversion, based on a 5 door SW, however they are
probably more famous for their VW Campervans than their Land
Rover conversions. Dormobiles had all metal furniture, which
IMO does not look as pretty as the Carawagon ones but thennagain
I'm bias. Land Rover Dormobiles are probably most famous for
their multi-coloured pop up roofs

Calling a Carawagon a Dormobile and vice versa is tantamount to
calling a Land Rover a Jeep!

You have probably seen this brochure, and it is obviously later
than your vehicle but the layout looks the same.

Layout looks very similar, apart from I only have 1 bed, the
brochures looks like a Safari MK 3, probably 76 onwards...
I'll get a list together in the differences in the SWB Searles
when I can be arsed....
