I think sum fink has broke!

Whilst I was mucking about with the front brakes this afternoon,
new drums were squealing binding and pulling to one side, I took
it outside for a test brake I reversed it down the yard stopped
put it in first and that's when it happened, not a lot it didn't
go forward there was a small definite clunk, not happy,
I can put it in first gear and it doesn't go anywhere but if I
push down on the yellow lever it will drive and all gears engage
I can also pull the red lever fully back and again it will drive
with all gears ???
If I put it back to the normal driving position and select first
gear I can get out, whilst still in gear, and watch the rear
prop shaft doing its business and the front not! Can't see
anything obvious underneath.
Missing it already.
Any thoughts would be helpful and greatly received

Sounds like a rear halfshaft has broken.
Easy to fix by replacing, provided you can get all the broken
bits out.
Ideally, you want to remove the diff to check for broken bits of
halfshaft before fitting a new one.

Rear half shaft gone i would say that is why the propshaft is
turning and you are notgoing anywhere !!!! The front propshaft
wont be doing anything as you have only got rear wheel drive
selected as the red lever is forwardand your yellow button is
not depressed!!

Is there a way of knowing which one has broke?

Jack up a rear wheel and try to turn it ( with the hand brake
on) If it turns freely thats the brokern one, if it only moves a
bit and the prop can be seen trying to turn thats the good one.

You need to take out both and the diff in order to get the
broken bit out of the diff where 90 per cenr break! While they
are out inspect the end of the other one and if you can see any
sign of the splines being out of line along their length change
them both, in my long experience you will only need to change
one.

I always used to put a nick in the driveshaft right by the
driveflange. Yes it would weaken it but when the do snap they do
at least usually go by the driveflange which makes changing it a
lot quicker!

Right I have done as gadget suggests and both wheels turn
without any resistance, not even turning the prop :-\
The drivers side wheel does engage the prop but only about 1/4
turn then free wheels.
Am I right in thinking now that something more expensive has
gone wrong i.e. the diff itself?
