grill ) Hopefully someone on here can advise. It says 2.6
petrol on the log.

Someone's had fun with the throttle linkage there.
The reservoir bolted to that upright at left front is for the
flame start device. On cold mornings you switch it on, count to
20 and start the engine. If you pull off the air intake, you
should be able to see it bursting into flame which is a nice
party trick. I'm not convinced you'd want a rubber tube over it
though - mine has a brass elbow section to survive the flame.
The exhaust exiting through the wing is a bit nasty. Some
manifolds point straight downwards allowing you to fit a
standard 109 exhaust (with a short extra section). It's worth
swapping if you come across one.
Likewise, if anyone's scrapping a 4.203, parts like that are
worth a few quid so shouldn't just be weighed in.
Great looking project!

Nice find, that's the same year and should be the same colour
as my 109", which strangely enough is a truck cab too.
Looks like it started life as a 6 pot, maybe that's why the
brakes be different...
The log book states the colour is white so the previous owner
has been tardy in notifying DVLA. The current paint job has been
there a long time and the only place I could find any white was
on the bulkhead gutter for the bonnet.

Very nice! Yes definitely orginally a six pot. You are going to
enjoy getting thise front brakes set up, but when you do, they
work very well.
Very hard to get at the bottom bleed nipple. I took all the
drums off and bleed it as much as possible. This gave me some
pedal bu only for a couple of presses then no resistance again.
I'll see if I can swap the master cylinder with this other one I
have.

Cheers for the info Willy. I've just had a look at that flame
start thing. It's not obvious to me how you switch it on. How
does it work and will it give one burst only? If you can even
point me to a link with more info about the engine that would be
great. I've joined a boat forum just so I can read stuff about
perkins engines
The exhaust is fairly agricultural

It's very noisy as it is but I can't see that little box making
much difference.

The flame start device will have one electric terminal - a spade
or threaded hole. Touch it with a wire from the +ve side of the
battery (it's earthed through the manifold) and 2 things should
happen.
A valve should open allowing diesel to flow through slowly; the
coil should heat up to white hot.
After a few seconds, the diesel should start to steam and then
burst into flame with a soft "pop".
If it doesn't work, check that diesel is getting through from
the reservoir, which is usually connected to the fuel return.
Mine isn't, I just top it up every few months.
If there's diesel getting through but it still doesn't work, a
new one only costs about £7 from your local Massey Ferguson
parts dealer so no point trying to mend it.
Obviously it's not original to the Landy so could be wired in by
any sort of bodge. Mine has a proper switch connected via a
solenoid and a link to the orange choke indicator light on the
dash. It used to just have a crocodile clip to connect to the
battery until I forgot to disconnect it one day and melted the
unit.

That looks like a superb find, judging by the badge I'd hazard a
guess someone paid money on a proper conversion. Much as I'm an
advocate of the six pot I'd be keeping that just as it is. Some
of these engine conversions of the past are getting less and
less common and are an interesting part of the series story to
me. A chap I know has a 4.203 in a forklift and he found all the
bits easily available should you ever need any.
As for the wheels, 272309 are early 2a 109 rims, my '66 109 has
them but the '67 six pot regular and six pot station wagon
don't.

Single handed tub removal. I had an op last month so I'm not
supposed to lift heavy things.

Thought I should post about land rovers for a change and update
my 109 thread. Took me to page 9 of the members motors board to
find it :rolleye0012:
The chassis welding is done and the next steps will be brake
pipes. While searching for pics I discovered a couple of crappy
vids i made from when the tub came off so here they are first
then I'll put some shiny painted chassis pics up tonight to
bring the thread up to date.

I never spotted this thread!
Good save indeed! Engine change aside, it looks a relatively
original and unmolested vehicle; nice!

Cracking find, you can get an original master cylinder rebuild
kit from dunsfold for it for sensible money if you haven't
already sorted it, just done mine .
