failed mot corrosion help

Hi my s1 failed its mot today for the following reasons
rotten x member
rotten back axle
new to series motors esp series 1's. can you get replacement x
members?
any idea what to do with the axle? it seems to be the welded
support underneath that is rotten through not the axle casing
itself

Pics would help. As for the axle, I'm not familiar with s1 types
but 2/2a/3 military axles had extra bracing that could rot
through, the simplest option is to grind it off as it's not
required and wasn't there on civvy axles.

make replacement chassis
parts, including rear cross members - and a series one rear
cross member looks better on a series one than a later series
2/3 type, which will fit, but looks crap.
As for the axle, I am sure the series one didn't have that brace
you mention, so it may not be an original series one back axle -
are the ends of the hubs slightly concave? or do they look like
the front ones, with protruding end caps? I guess you could just
cut that bracing away with a grinder, I think it was only fitted
to military axle cases anyway.

I think all the series 1 axles got the strengthening - certainly
my 109" seems to have it.
That said, given LR decided it wasn't needed on the later
vehicles, you could cut it off.
The axle cases are cast steel (not iron), and are fairly easy to
weld, so the best bet is probably to clean up the affected area,
and make some welded repairs.
