Would it be a good or bad idea to galv the rear door hinges?
Obviously with out the hinge pin and ball.

If you do them and it doesn't turn out well you can remove it
again with some brick acid, just wear gloves, goggles and stand
back!
I did some brake back plates and struggled to remove a
sacrificial bolt i had fitted to the brake steady holes, the
zinc had sort of pooled where the 2 met. I made a small barrier
around the bolt with putty and dropped in some neat brick acid,
after about 4-5 lots all the zinc had gone.
You may be able to do something similar on the hinges to remove
any galv you do not need? Just wash/scrub them well afterwards.

Just fill the area you don't want the zinc with ordinary gutter
silicone.
The galvanising process cooks the silicone and makes it is easy
to remove leaving the area "zinc free"

I've a tub of brick acid on standby for any threads that my taps
can't deal with.

Collected my parts from Wedge Galvanizing Merseyside, very
impressed, nothing lost or damaged, bulkhead offered up to the
chassis and looks to be as it was when it came off just a slight
ripple in the panel where the chassis plates fit, as I expected.

The finish is excellent on the parts which weren't sand blasted.

Minimal cleaning up needed on most parts, mostly rivet holes and
crush tubes needed drilling out.

I'll start cleaning out the threaded holes on the bulkhead
tomorrow, I'm not looking forwards to that task as I've quite a
lot of galv in some of them.

I'm very happy the finish, but if I had to do it again I'd avoid
blasting the bulkhead as it's going to take a bit of high build
primer to rid it of the rough texture. The capping's are really
nice
I've spent all of today removing the galv from the threads on
the bulkhead, drilled the excess out as close to the threads as
a I dared to then spent the rest of the day with cotton buds
dipped in brick acid. Boring repetitive work, just the
windscreen bolt holes to do on Monday.

Windscreen hinge holes clean
Forgot about the flap hinge holes, had to get a flexy attachment
for the drill first hole snapped a drill :loser:, to deep to get
at with pliers ???
Cracked on with the other three but couldn't get the drill
totally square so started dissolving with brick acid spent hours
cleaning out one, then decided to tap the remaining galv with a
punch, which promptly popped out as did it's neighbour.
The hinge with the snapped drill took a few hefty taps then
cleared it's self of drill and galv plug, overjoyed that it came
out and I can start painting tomorrow. >rock<
Pissed off that I've lost most of a day for so little progress.
:smiley-furious:
And to top the day off my camera refuses to stop working as a
video camera so no photos today. :2mo5pow:
