Today I made some extra breathers for the over drive and the
transfer box. Now that I use the motor way to go to work I'm
getting sick of washing EP90 off the back end. Hope fully these
breathers will stop the oil collecting on the casings and
blowing off then collecting on my rear end.

The tubes end at the edge of the photo, I may in time extend
them or not.
Next job will be to fit some proper sized copper washers to the
transfer box and do something similar with the gearbox once my
military filler cap arrives.
Other recent jobs have been fitting new mintex brake shoes,
which have made the world of difference compared to the
unbranded shoes.
My steering relay had a little play in it which after filling
the relay with oil has now gone. I'm guessing it never had oil
in it since new as it took over 100ml of oil. My theory for this
free fix is that the bushes weren't pushing against the tapers
properly and that the oil is now allowing them to slide on the
shaft and make contact with the tapers on the shaft.

Just looking at the same for my 86".
What fitting and tap did you use on the T box plate?

The banjo bolts are M10x1, the plate on the is a little thin for
only being tapped so has a nut underneath, I may make a new
plate from the same thickness steel I have used for the over
drive next weekend. I'm not keen about having a nut which even
though thread locked, could undo and jam or damage the gear box
internals.
The pipe for the over drive isn't long enough and is letting
EP90 run back down the pipe :(

Wouldn't you be better making the pipes a lot longer and having
them go up into the engine bay, up the bulkhead or something?
Then they'd be out of the water in case you go wading. I've got
such pipes on the axles of mine but have never been arsed to fit
some to the overdrive and gearbox.

That's the plan, but I've only limited supplies of pipe at the
moment, plenty 2ft and 3ft but no joiners or long lengths to
reach the bulkhead where the gearbox pipe ends.
The breathers will now need to go on the back burner as my N/S
bottom wheel cylinder has decided to leak on to my new shoes
:smiley-furious: less than a month old, and the cylinder was new
in June. Not even Britpart was a Lucas TRW which has rusted and
looks to be to deep to re hone.
It's never been through any water deep enough to submerge it so
I confused how it's rusted, the piston has no rust on it so it
look like some how I've got moisture trapped behind the seals.

Bugger, the O/S bottom wheel cylinder is corroded as well ???
I'm wondering if somehow moisture has got into the front brakes
and with it being on silicone fluid has found it's way to the
lowest point in the circuit?
I think I may flush it all out and put standard fluid back in
this weekend.

A partial success with the overdrive breather, I hadn't bothered
to add the deflector thing on the plate so had a lot of oil
coming up the pipe.

So I've made one.

HTML http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww116/ashcroft752/DSCF1762.jpg[/img]
Unfortunately although it looks to be welded on whatever I made
the new plate from won't weld ??? I don't know what metal it is
but it repels weld, the weld appears to have worked until given
a tap with the hammer then it falls of, no penetration on any
setting. Cleaned up with the grinder still the same.
So back on with the old one, until I can get some proper steel
and make a fresh plate next weekend.

New plates for the tbox and OD.

New gear box filler thickened with 3mm plate steel and tapped to
take a 10mm banjo for the remote breather. Held down with cable
ties for the time being as I forgot to order the 1st 2nd gear
spring plug, I had thought about making a bracket from the OD
lever bracket but then had an ICBA moment.

All breather pipes end near the brake pedal box, nice and high
and if any EP90 makes it's way to the end of the pipes it can
rust proof the toe box ;D

All breathers so far have been a success, T-box and O-D have
more oil inside than outside for a change. The G-box still has a
permanent drizzle coming from the selector shafts.
Today I fitted the 3rd speedo cable in as many years
:smiley-furious: Genuine one this time so I may be lucky and get
a few years service from it this time.
While I had the dash out I thought I may as well take my speedo
apart and see if I could fix the odometer, it hasn't counted for
nearly two years.
Firstly I took apart the spare speedo to see how complex a job
this may be.

It took a fair amount of twisting to get the glass off
Obvious where the problem was with the one from the vehicle.

The spring steel clip had rusted and allowed the plastic thing
to fall off, fixed by replacing the plastic arm and securing
with the clip from the spare.
Now have a speedo which works and counts the miles :smile1
Now have a speedo which works and counts the miles but doesn't
illuminate :gay:
Dash out tomorrow then? :smiley-furious:

As my beloved Prima has developed a worrying noise and will need
a good looking at if not replacing, and as I've had a box of
bulkhead repair panels waiting in my shed for about 2 years,
today I have made a start.
Dash and floor out. Loads of missing stuff hiding in the lower
dash, memory sticks change pens but no .22 rounds this time.

at her side ;D

Engine out for assessment next weekend and maybe start cutting
out the shite fit toe box then rotten door pillar, who knows I
may even manage to get some welding done, although knowing my
luck it'll probably rain on my days off until LATP.
Better start finding all my bit for when it's ready to go for
galvanising.
If i can be arsed I might even tidy up the rat's nest of wiring
which I'm sure wasn't that tangled last time I was in the dash
???
