At the time of posting it appears that 2.25 petrols have the
majority (16) with 200Tdi a close second (12). I was one of the
first on OLLR to go Tdi (I only knew of Bigblue and Swops at the
time) and I wouldn't go back now but if the 2.25 diesel had kept
on going then I'd probably still have it. My other 88 had one
and it was an excellent engine.
There's a lot of rubbish talked about Tdi conversions and most
of it by folk who have never driven or even had a ride in one
but Kev said he doesn't want rants or arguments so I'll leave it
there. :)

turbocharged 2.25 diesel (3MB) - all the doubters said it would
never work, but ...

No wish to be argumentative, but it is NOT.
I've had loads of Landrovers, powered by just about every
conceivable engine, the only one that has consistently wrecked
drive-line components is the Tdi. I now drive it much more
gently than I've ever driven anything else (at least in 3rd
gear, as thats the one that always breaks), and it still smashes
clutches and gearboxes up like they are going out of fashon. I'm
not exactly the only one to have noticed this - I just suffer
more than most because I have a heavier than average vehicle
that is frequently used laden, has slightly taller gearing than
most, does far more miles than average, and is driven a
particularly punishing route every day.
I freely admit I've a fairly heavy right boot, but I also take
the view that the correct solution to this is do what LR did,
and fit a suitable gearbox...
None of which will do anything to solve the problem of
everything on the whole vehicle vibrating undone when it's
idling...

She's small, but she's vicious you know. Naturally I meant the
engine, she could conceivably read this over the shoulder. I
refuse to incriminate myself further.

2.5 nat ass diesel in Tubs.
Just because it was available and guaranteed when an new engine
was needed. It's loud and it's slow but it seems to be bullet
proof.

Bog std 2.25 petrol in the Lightweight still. However fuel
consumption is not really an issue for me since I've probably
only done about a 150 miles (if that) in it in the last year...
