Are standard-powered LR's no longer the norm...?

After seeing a Facebook rant from a former member of this forum
(and some kwality responses by our very own Stuey), I wondered
if standard LR engines are no longer the norm. Obviously with
fuel prices and the economy as they are cheaper forms of
propulsion are appealing and more and more people are
converting. With OLLR being THE place for folk who regularly use
and abuse their old Land Rovers obviously this is quite apparent
on here.
So here's a quick straw poll - obviously some of you have more
than one (or ten) but vote for the LR you use the mostest.
Not interested in rants or arguements please...

I was going to vote, but a Perkins 4.203 isn't just a "something
else", so bollocks to yer.

He kind of led me down a garden path to say he had a nice new
110, I was slagging it off then all of a sudden it came up with
blah likes this.... :banghead
TBH until me and Mrs Stuey were talking of getting a leafer for
a daily drive, it never really occurred to me to change engines
to a more powerful / economical. Then earlier this year we were
getting a series 3 with the intentions of putting a 200 / 300 in
it, however the Lightweight came up and that was already Tranny
engine powered.
Personally I thought that I wouldn't like it and that it would
come out to make way for a tdi of whatever flavour in the
future. However, after a while, it's not too bad, probably
not as quick as a tdi, but quicker than a 2 1/4 - not a bad
compromise, as it will probably run out of puff before the
gearbox drops out. Spares are plentiful, 40 MPG all day long
and despite all the nay sayers saying it's too loud, I
personally don't think it is any more louder than a 2 1/4
diesel. Anyway I don't here the engine over the stereo!

2.25 petrol for me as that's what it came with.
Considering options for the future at the moment though so will
change at some point, probably for something a little different
to the norm (L series diesel appeals and are at the point primas
were a few years back - loads around and cheap)

Six pot - the hero's engine.
Although, lovely smooth burbling power plant that it is (in
series land rover terms anyway) I have to confess that if I was
gong to be doing a serious annual mileage in a leafer I would
consider a tdi; if for no other reason than the wallet thumping
mpg figure that I currently experience. But not by putting a tdi
in a perfectly good six pot 'cos that would be heresy.

mines a 200tdi. Reasons: fuel economy as i drive lots and
leavealoneability. Thats it really but id love to run a 6 pot or
v8 but expensive and needs twiddling. just easier to live with!
plus a 200 is cheaper than rebuilding a 2.25.
engines in cars i ve owned:
nissan 2.5 diesel...slow!6
perkins 4.236 na from a dodge 50
perkins 4.236 from a tractor
perkins 4.236 turbo (ate 3 new gearboxes)
200tdi
perkins prima (worn out)
200tdi current engine
tdis have been the least hassle! 4.236 the worst hassle. Notice
a diesel pattern???? :thumbs: rofl

I don't suppose you include my 6 pot in that description ;-)
Steptoe has a VW 6 pot NA Diesel, from an LT van.
Then again, I think I'm now driving my Carawagon more than
Steptoe, so I suppose the tick will have to go in the boring old
200TDi!
