I am not sure if this really counts, as its only a part of a
Land-Rover. I found it in a scrapyard in Cooma, NSW in Australia
- it was a bit of a Holy Grail for me, as I had been trying to
find Land-Rovers that had been used in the Snowy Mountains Hydro
Electric project from the 50's, and this was the nearest that I
got. It was in a pile of series one parts, so maybe the complete
vehicle was there anyway.....
SMA is the abbreviation for Snowy Mountains Authority

Was that one really abandoned or did it get rescued? It looks
like it might be a bit special.

I am not sure Doug - it looks like it has a galvy chassis, so
could be a very early 80. A mate actually told me about the
photo, and you can find it on google images - he googled "land
rover and lighthouse" to find it. He has since found the
Scottish Island that it is on, and it is still near to a
lighthouse. It may be the Land Rover is ex Trinity House,
although there don't appear to be any markings - unless they
were on the doors!
