Bulkhead protection

I've been wondering about how to try and protect the footwells
in my new bulkhead. It's the inner arch side that I'm looking
at.
Has anyone ever tried using stone chip?
Or are there any other suggestions?

i used Schultz under-seal it seems to be working treat at the
moment, but mine was onto new metal dont know how it would fare
on older dirtier stuff

looking at the pics of your latest landrover your new bulkhead
would be better on my SIIa, got a nice rust well rottern one i
can swap you with.

I've already got one like that. Pick up my new one tomorrow.
You can have the old one if you want to fix up for yours?

I don't know what the inside of the arches are like on later
motors but I pop rivited some strong rubber (boot mat from a
Lada Riva) into each front wing to protect the bulkhead on the
80" and works a treat, stops all the flying crap.

What stops salty water from getting between the rubber and the
footwell?? I'd be a bit worried about that.
I've stonechipped Smeg's footwells, but it hasn't been on the
road long enough to tell if it's going to work well or not. I
think the most important think is to keep an eye on whatever you
choose to do and keep on top of any scratches, dings, damp
patches, bubbles in paintwork etc and don't let tinworm get a
hold. :)

The rubber just stops any stones and stuff chipping the bulkhead
(first line of defence), I have still have primer, paint and
then stone chip paint on the bulkhead. Just to make sure every
so often spray everything underneath (bar brakes) with old
engine oil and diesel, keeps everything nice and helps the
springs loosen a bit. May be over the top but its not rusting
yet.
