Tonight in Matlock...
A presentation from a couple of guys who dealt with the
aftermath of Chernoble.

> Dear all,
>
> Apologies for the bulk email, but the talk being given
tomorrow in Matlock may be of interest to some of you as it is a
unique opportunity to hear form and ask questions to two
contemporary witnesses of the Chernobyl accident, the world's
worst environmental disaster which happened in 1986 in Ukraine,
part of the Soviet Union at that time.
>
> As part of the Chernobyl European Action Week, Chernobyl
Children's Life Line have invited 6 Liquidators to the UK this
week to give presentations on their experiences and consequences
of working at Chernobyl in the days and weeks after the
explosion. We have two of these Liquidators at Matlock Imperial
Rooms on Friday evening, a miner, who was involved with
tunnelling under the destroyed reactor and a fire fighter who
was in charge of fire safety on the site for a two week period
in June 1986.
>
> I attach a flier and an information leaflet giving more
details of the presentations and of the Liquidators. I shall be
giving an introductory presentation on the disaster itself an
the long term consequences for the environment and the people
who live in the contaminated areas of Belarus and Ukraine.
>
> The event is free and starts at 7.30pm. Refreshments are
available. Postcode of the Imperial Rooms is DE4 3NL.

Anyone that researches the Chernobyl disaster will be fascinated
by the whole event. Ill bet a chat with those people will be
very sobering.

One was a fireman, the other a miner who helped dig a tunnel
under the burning reactor. What i hadn't realised was how close
it got to a thermonuclear explosion which would have kippered
most of Europe.

I'm glad there are still some of these brave men around. A lot
of them have died and they did an amazing job stopping an even
worse disaster. The forests around there are amazing and perfect
for driving leafers.Unfortunately I was driving a Ford Galaxy!
