after n epic day out with my local offroad drivers club and a
blast in a V8 Bowler iv decided tha im sticking wi petrol nd
putting some thought into the old V6 Cosworth engines,
has anybody done this conversion on here before to a series
       Landy ?
does anybody know if there is conversion plates to mate the unit
       to series gearbox ?
was impressed with my old beast offroad, even showed a couple
defenders how its done on a couple of the stages when i took the
no fear approach nd they were to gay to give it the beans
think tyres nd suspension upgrades are needed if im gonna
compete fir points but all in all i came away wi a smile on my
       face

Cossy V6 is a good engine, go well in a mk3 cortina :smile1,
they can make 220 brake with little mods so I think the series
box is gonna struggle with that, my V8 series has a slipping
clutch already after not many miles and i'm only putting out
160ish dunno if an uprated clutch is avalible but i'd rather the
clutch fried that breaking the box or halfshaft. Maybe use a
different box but that gonna be a bit gay :gay:

They produce 204/208bhp as standard.... so 220 is a spit into
the wind... I have seen 930ish bhp at the wheels on a twin turbo
XR4i..... obviously this was slightly breatyhed on. The basic
engine (BOA or BOB) develops it's peak power at high revs, and I
reckon it's unsuited to use in a Land Rover. Try the 12V unit
instead. Parker conversions would fit. Hey.... why not the 4.0
unit from the Disco3/Ford Exploder? That's the same-ish block
       etc.

Had a lightweight with a tweaked Essex lump in it and despite
regular applications of the right foot it never killed the
drivetrain (head gaskets are another story).
Electric fan and a fairly knackered radiator meant temperature
control was always marginal at best
That just ran standard leaves, shocks and crossplies and was a
       right hoot ;D

il look into the disco3/ranger unit cheers
my main thing is i need to keep it legal so i can compete in the
road going class thts where al the defenders are nd my main aim
is to stay in that class nd wipe the floor wi them
the lower the end budget the better itl be when i slay the £15k+
       defenders
truck cost me £600 so if i can complete the build for under or
around the £2k mark and have capable machine happy days
i would prefer it to be fuel injected as some of the angles we'r
at if it stalls then the better for starting from what i noticed
       anyway
always open to ideas so keep them coming
       Cheers

Are you taking about trialing? (The whole "stages" bit
       confuddled me)
If it is trialing just before yo go all max power consider what
makes the top boys get that win. Why do they get places
       (sometimes) that you don't?
I'm assuming here the trials are like the trials up here, it
sounds like it and you never get out with a straight motor. I
have done a few events further south which looked like you could
       do it a freelander. :gay:
Depends on what sort of people set up the sections but count how
often you run out of lock or could do with better lock to get a
better line. Power won't fix that. A series 3 normally has a
turning circle the same as a range rover which is pants. After
all Range Rovers get a shunt per section!
Also when you do get stuck on a climb think about what a series
does. It naturally bounces up and down which is the last thing
you need where as a coiler can start to get stuck and just apply
power and there's no bounce or "tramping". Power won't fix
       this. In fact the opposite.
That aside just remember that a lot of events only allow rover
engines etc so it will limit what you can enter.
The other thing is Ford V6 is a very very heavy way of making
200+bhp. This will make a difference although moving engine and
box back by a 1-2 foot will help.
The alternative is a Honda/ Rover V6. Not the KV6. Easy to
make nigh on 200bhp but weights less than a 2 and a quarter and
       has a rover part number.
Before you start the big engine mods just take stock. I
guarantee there a lot of cheaper things to do first that will
make a difference on EVERY section not just if you have to power
       though some soft stuff.
If you're interested have a gander at this rather long story:

       Good reading Phil cheers
yeah RTV events that im keen on competing in, the road going
class in my local club consits of a suzuki vitara nd a dozen
       defenders
the courses that they set out are testing to say the least, the
way they look at it they have boys in the club wi tomcats nd
bowlers that need to be on the limit so they dont pussyfoot
around when setting them out. on a few occasions i took a look
at the course nd thot now way is my old leafer gonna look at it
nd i was surprised at what we managed
steering lock nd no power steering were a burden on the tight
courses right enough, woke up on monday morning nd felt like id
spent the day in the gym ;D
i only found out about it on saturday morning nd managed to get
an old set of 7.50 tyres onto my old series rims which arent
upto much so theres £500 to start wi

it would seem for good reason.

I don't think I'd go v6 for a trailer, or at least not before
addressing steering lock. My local club is MSA registered and
all sorts of specials run in it. The most successful of which
was a Suzuki sj based buggy with fiddles. That ran an A series
auto engine but would go places the v8 tomcat types wouldn't
       even look at.
Once I get mine back on the road I'll be competing in the 80
       with them.

Funnily enough the guy along the road that took me to the trials
runs a sj413 wi fiddles and the wee thing was immense on sunday
there, again it took on and cleared places that the tomcats
struggled with, things a pile of bolts, guy does it on a
shoestring, he won the championship last year wi the wee suzuki
and hasnt spent a penny on it since.
i think steering lock, tyres and need to look into some sort of
limited slip diff atleast afor i go throwing cash at a growling
engine, il stick wi the 2.1/4 petrol unit for the time being and
just have some fun wi her
